The love of a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive fan was so great that he purchased a weapon skin: for a staggering 61,000 US dollars. What makes the skin in CS: GO so particularly valuable?
Time and time again, virtual items are sold. Usually, when the amounts go to horrific heights, they are expansive products. In Second Life, for instance, the entire city of Amsterdam with sex shops changed hands for 50,000 dollars and in the MMO Entropia Universe, the Crystal Palace was even sold for a whopping 330,000 dollars! Along with tax revenues of course.
Following Cloud9’s #ELEAGUEMajor victory yesterday, this beautiful Souvenir Dragon Lore quickly sold for a whopping $61,052.63. Yes, you read that correctly ?

The most expensive beauty treatment a weapon has ever seen?
However, a player has spent $61,052.63 on cosmetics: the beautification of a weapon.
The weapon in question is the Arctic Warfare Police sniper rifle in CS: GO, adorned with the extremely rare “Dragon Lore” skin.
This skin is an extreme rarity, a true six in the lottery:
- It is the rarest drop from the Cobblestone Collection. Those loot crates drop during Valve-sponsored events and currently cost around $31.
- A few crates also contain items with stickers of the participating players – like this one.
- The skins vary in their beauty: While they usually show signs of wear, one can also be lucky and receive skins that are “factory new” – and that is the case here.

On Cloud 9
And the stickers are not only from PGL, G2 Esports, and the Cloud9 team but also from the eSports player Tyler “Skadoodle” Latham – who has just won the spectacular Final of the E-League Major Boston 2018 with his team Cloud9. Cloud9 items are likely to have significantly increased in value now. The “Dragon Lore” skin is thus not only an extremely rare skin but also one with a certain immaterial value.
However, only hardcore collectors will likely understand why someone paid $61,000 for it. The seller, player “Drone”, had purchased the skin for around 35,000 dollars about two months ago.
