Over the years, an incredible number of characters appear in Dragon Ball. No wonder that the creator of the manga, Akira Toriyama, has forgotten some of them. A fan asked the manga artist about a certain character who suddenly ceased to play a role.
Which character is it? We’re talking about Lunch. She is a lady with a split personality. As soon as she sneezes, she changes her appearance and character. Lunch has two possible states:
- She is a girl with purple hair who is helpful and friendly to everyone else. Her character is so pure that she can be carried by the Kinto-Un.
- She transforms into a battle-hardened power woman with blonde hair. In this state, Lunch knows how to handle weapons.
This is what the transformation looks like, as shown in the following video:
Lunch has been around since the beginnings of Dragon Ball. She accompanies Son-Goku to the Great Tournament and is a help to her friends against both the Red Ribbon Army and Piccolo.
However, after Raditz appeared in Dragon Ball Z, Lunch disappeared without a trace. She only appears in flashbacks or in material that is not part of the official Dragon Ball story. Toriyama had a reason for that.
It is likely that Lunch will also be absent in Dragon Ball Daima. Here you can see a trailer for the upcoming series:
Toriyama forgot Lunch and wrote her a sad ending
Why did Lunch disappear so suddenly? The lady with the multiple personality was simply forgotten. Toriyama explained in an interview that he didn’t remember her for a while. He then made it seem like she had been chasing after Tenshinhan.
To tell the truth, I completely forgot about her at some point. After a while, I remembered her again and had to come up with a reason for her disappearance. So I made it look like she was chasing after Tenshinhan.

The same thing happened to Toriyama with another character. Yajirobi was also temporarily forgotten by the creator of Dragon Ball. At least he is seen a few times supporting Master Quitte.
What happened to Lunch? During the promotional tour for the film Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods, Toriyama revealed what happens to some characters at the end of the series. Lunch appears in the description of Tenshinhan but could never achieve her big goal:
The stoic Tenshinhan mainly farms in addition to his training. He can split into multiple bodies and grow additional arms so that the harvest can be quickly gathered. He was found by Lunch, who fell in love with him at first sight, constantly followed his whereabouts, and even reluctantly lived with him; but she was not made for farming, and Tenshinhan has no interest in a romance, so she left him after a few days. After that, it seems like Lunch drops by from time to time.

So, she chased Tenshinhan for quite a while but couldn’t convince him of her love. It remains to be seen whether Toyotaro will eventually seize the opportunity to show Lunch again in some scenes in the manga. He is currently responsible for the continuation of the Dragon Ball Super manga:
