In Chapter 102 of the Dragon Ball Super manga, Son Goku and Son Gohan fight each other in their strongest forms. During the battle, Son Gohan explains to his father the secret behind “Beast Mode” and how he learned to control this form.
What secret lies behind “Beast Mode”? Son Goku asks his son what it is about “Beast Mode.” This mode was already seen in the manga and the movie Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.
- “Beast Mode” is Son Gohan’s strongest form. Piccolo came up with the name for this mode.
- During the transformation, Son Gohan gets longer hair that stands up in this mode. His hair turns silver and his iris becomes red.
- With this form, Son Gohan was even able to defeat Cell Max with ease. Bulma thinks that Son Gohan becomes an even stronger fighter through “Beast Mode” than his father.
Son Gohan explains to his father that he can use this form whenever he wants. He owes this ability to Piccolo, who taught Son Gohan how to control his flow of energy and thus achieve full control over “Beast Mode.”

Who is the stronger Saiyan now? To prove his skills, Son Gohan first faces his brother Son Goten and Vegeta’s son Trunks. The two try to fuse, but the result is a corpulent fighter who is defeated by Son Gohan.
Son Gohan does not even have to activate his “Beast Mode” to defeat the two.
Then, Son Goku takes the honor and faces his son. Son Gohan activates his “Beast Mode,” while Son Goku uses his “Ultra Instinct.” In this technique, consciousness separates from the body, resulting in the Saiyan having faster reflexes.
Both Saiyans thus fight each other in their strongest forms. In Chapter 102, there is no winner yet, but the two fighters demonstrate how powerful their best forms are. They actually destroy part of Beerus’s planet, despite only fighting through physical contact.
What happens next? Dragon Ball Super is the continuation of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. The first manga volume was released in June 2015. Since then, the manga has been regularly continued with new chapters.
There was even an anime that ran from 2015 to 2018. However, only the first 42 chapters of the manga are shown, which now comprises 102 chapters. Therefore, Son Gohan’s new form has not yet been seen in the anime, only in the movie.
Instead, anime fans can look forward to Dragon Ball Daima, which is set to premiere in Fall 2024: Dragon Ball: New series of the cult anime starts in 2024 and will shrink Son Goku and Vegeta again.
