In a new trailer for Dragon Ball DAIMA, the young Goku shows his best side, not only making many fans reminisce but also giving hope for a good anime.
What kind of anime is this going to be? The Japanese company announced a new anime in the Dragon Ball universe some time ago. The anime is titled Dragon Ball DAIMA and is being directed by Aya Komika (Assistant Director of One Piece Film: Red) and Yoshitaka Yahima (Animation Director of Dragon Ball Super).
In the new anime, Son Goku and some other characters are supposed to be young again. We don’t have much more information yet. The release is planned for Fall 2024.
Now a new trailer focuses on young Son Goku, showing longtime fans what they have missed:
What detail excites in the trailer? In short, one detail in the trailer particularly caught my eye. Young Goku uses the monk staff in battle. And that is definitely something I missed at some point in the course of the story.
Even though Goku naturally grew stronger, developed other fighting styles, and hardly used any aids anymore, it was still quite nice to see that the creators of the anime remembered to give young Goku back his staff.
This staff gives hope that perhaps the story will return a bit to its origins, bringing back the charm and humor of the original.
Dragon Ball accompanies many anime fans throughout their lives
Dragon Ball has accompanied me, like many other anime fans, for what feels like my whole life. I connect the manga and anime with memories of a vacation where I read through the entire first series or afternoons where I flew over the yard on imaginary “Jindujuns” (small, magical clouds) with friends.
The trailer for the new anime excites me primarily because it has brought back the Son Goku of my childhood. Seeing him back in action, taking down some nasty characters with a grin on his face while shoveling in heaps of food, brought me a lot of joy. Just this aspect has ensured that I will keep an eye on Dragon Ball DAIMA in the near future.
What else excites the fans? In fact, you can find many fans in the comments under the trailer (via YouTube) who are happy about the return of the monk staff. In general, some users like “liviekumori” mention that they appreciate that the anime seems to be focusing more on the original martial arts again.
Just this makes many feel nostalgic and gives hope for a good new anime in the Dragon Ball universe.
Similar to “DR3G0N”, who writes that he is glad to see Dragon Ball in such a fantastic style again, many fans praise the new animation style in their comments, which some also say reminds them of Dragon Quest.
