Son Goku has two children and one grandchild in Dragon Ball now. Pan is the daughter of Son Gohan and Videl and completes the family happiness. Thanks to Goku’s wife Chichi, we know that she would have likely continued the family’s naming tradition had Pan been a boy.
What would her name have been as a boy? In Episode 9 of the Dragon Ball Super anime, Videl reveals that she is pregnant. For the ritual to become a Super Saiyan God, Son Goku lacks another Saiyan. Therefore, Videl decides to let the news out. Since Son Gohan is the father of her unborn child, it is a quarter Saiyan.
Son Gohan and everyone present are excited about the pregnancy. At that time, the sex of the child was still unclear, but Chi-Chi had a brilliant idea for a name.

At that moment, Chi-Chi probably forgot that Son Goten also follows this naming tradition. If Pan had been a boy and Videl had agreed to the name, she would thus have been the fourth family member whose name fits into the Son family.

What does Pan mean? However, Videl and Son Gohan had a girl and named her Pan. Thus, they stay true to their own naming line, as Pan means, like her father, a type of food.
Gohan means something like “lunch” or “rice,” while “Pan” translates to “bread.” The mangaka of Dragon Ball, Akira Toriyama, often had a pattern in naming his characters. Many Saiyans are named after vegetables, while the Ginyu Force are named after dairy products.
However, Son Gomen would also have fit well into this tradition. The suffix “-men” is the ending for many Japanese noodle dishes such as Ramen or Somen. If she had been a boy, she would still have been a carbohydrate-rich meal.
Although Son Goku was happy about Videl’s pregnancy reveal that he was becoming a grandfather, he initially didn’t care much for Pan.
