In Dragon Age: The Veilguard, you face numerous enemies together with two other companions. If you feel too weak in the confrontations, it may be because you are overlooking a handy feature.
How do the battles work? In The Veilguard, you choose two of the total seven companions to support you before each quest. Compared to the predecessors, that is one less in your group.
Furthermore, you do not control the companions in battle, they act independently.
Thus, the combat system in the fourth installment of the series has become a little more action-packed and less tactical. Although there is again a tactical pause where you can give commands to your companions, the system cannot match the depth of Origins.
It is still fun, especially as long as you maintain the upper hand. If you feel too weak despite strong equipment and skills, you should pay attention to an important feature that the game does not explain directly.
Is it unfair for all to target one?
What feature is it about? When you pause the battle, you can unleash your abilities on specific enemies and do the same for your companions.
Apart from that, your helpers automatically attack enemies and do not necessarily focus on the one you are watching. Sometimes, however, there are enemies that are particularly annoying. A distant mage, for example, who constantly shoots projectiles at you or buffs his allies. Such enemies should be eliminated as quickly as possible, and that works best with combined forces.
Your companions unfortunately cannot read your mind, which is why you need to actively tell them which target to attack – preferably the one you are already focusing on.
To do this, pause and select in the radial menu at the top center the function “Both companions will target this enemy.” This is self-explanatory, and your companions will follow the instruction.
Why is this important? On one hand, more striking power is never wrong; on the other hand, there are items and abilities in the game whose effects only trigger when you use this feature. A certain build can benefit greatly from this. On MeinMMO, you will find a strong warrior build and a deadly mage build.
By the way, you can also send only one of the two companions to your target. The corresponding function is located directly to the left or right of it.
