Dr Disrespect was once one of the biggest streamers on Twitch. Then he was suddenly permanently banned, and no one really knew what was going on. Now the former Twitch star is back and announces the end of the dispute. However, it seems that it didn’t go as planned in his favor.
What’s going on with the Doc?
- In June 2020, Dr Disrespect received a ban from Twitch. It was a permanent ban. Dr Disrespect had signed a lucrative exclusive contract with Twitch just a few months earlier.
- The exact reason was never disclosed. There were several speculations and hot rumors, but the matter was never clarified.
- In early 2022, the Doc grandiosely announced in his annual plans that he would achieve a “reversal of the ban and hefty compensation” from Twitch (via Twitter). However, this did not work out.
This is what’s happening now: In his latest and probably final tweet on the subject, Dr Disrespect simply says: “I’m moving on,” below which he posts a picture of a signed note. On this note it says:
I have settled my legal dispute with Twitch. No party admits to any wrongdoing.
For the Doc, this means that he will not see any of the compensations he aimed for. The ban remains valid, as there is no fault on Twitch’s part. Dr Disrespect will therefore not return.
Even though this is a neutral outcome, the streamer has essentially lost.
Twitch ban causes great losses, but it goes on
What does the ban mean? Since his ban, Dr Disrespect has switched to YouTube and entertains his fans there. However, he doesn’t seem to be really satisfied. Working on Twitch is much easier than on YouTube, he says in one of his videos.
Due to the platform’s algorithm, even “children’s games” like Roblox are more important than him. Overall, he probably has fewer viewers than on Twitch, which also limits his reach. His income is not that great either. Although he is doing well, he is far from his former success.
He says he has lost many opportunities since his ban. He hints that he is blacklisted by some companies, and in general, it weighs heavily on him that he lost overnight what he had built up over the years on Twitch.
What is the Doc doing now? Already at the end of 2021, Dr Disrespect announced that he would establish his own AAA studio as a competitor to CoD and Apex Legends, Midnight Society. However, this is still in development and looking for developers. His plans for 2022 also include the following points:
- Raise 100 million [dollars] for Midnight Society
- Get into the bourbon business
- Release a music album
- The “Doc-Con ’22”
At least the last point regarding Twitch can now definitely be crossed off by the Doc. Generally, it seems that the streaming service is currently showing a certain toughness. Twitch is acting unusually rigorously:
