The live streamer Dr. Disrespect was banned from Twitch 4 years ago. The reasons were unclear at the time. In a stream on April 8, the topic comes up again and emotions run high.
What was that ban like back then?
- Dr. Disrespect was one of the first major streamers on Twitch. He used a distinctive character as his online persona. The streamer rose to fame on Twitch at a time when the platform was much smaller than it is today: In 2017, he suddenly reached 18,000 viewers and almost single-handedly made the game PUBG from a small South Korean studio a huge hit.
- His career seemed to peak in 2020: The biggest streamer at the time Ninja had left Twitch, and the huge shooter streamer shroud had switched to Mixer. Twitch signed Dr. Disrespect with a lucrative exclusive contract in March 2020.
- But the rise was followed by a fall: In June 2020, Twitch permanently banned Dr. Disrespect from the platform. Since then, he cannot be mentioned on Twitch or stream himself.
Dr. Disrespect still feels the pain of the ban
This is what he says now: In a stream on 8.4, Dr. Disrespect is asked if he still makes music, and the question brings up the old story again.
He says that when the sleazy, disgusting purple snakes banned him and took away everything he had built up back then, he fell into a pit and went through a tough time like never before in his life.

The hardest time was the first year after the ban, during which he was still in the dark as to why he was banned; he was not informed of the reason for a year.

What did he lose? Dr. Disrespect explains in the video that he was on the verge of a major deal with sports shoe manufacturer Nike and a deal with sunglasses giant Oakley. He even has prototypes he can show.
How did the ban end? Overall, this is a very unsatisfactory situation. It seems that Dr. Disrespect and Amazon later came to a legal agreement regarding the ban and settled their lawsuit but also decided not to speak publicly about it.
Initially, Dr. Disrespect announced he would sue Twitch. The dispute was settled in March 2022, and Dr. Disrespect merely stated that both parties had admitted no wrongdoing.
What makes it worth watching?? Dr. Disrespect is normally a cool character who shows no weakness. Only in rare moments does the shell of sunglasses and thick mustache break, and he shows what is really going on inside him.
And the Twitch ban has really affected him, to the point where he admits to “feeling things like never before,” which has likely inspired songs, is perhaps the most honest and emotional thing one will hear from him.
