Streamer Dr DisRespect struggles with Chinese players in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) and H1Z1. As he mocks them on Twitch with a bad accent, he faces accusations of racism. While he finds them ridiculous, they are not without effect.
The topic of “cheating” concerns the community of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. Since developer Blueholer reached an agreement with the Chinese giant Tencent and the Chinese government now finds the shooter totally okay after initial concerns, PUBG has an absurd number of Chinese players and a problem with cheaters.
With the partnership with China came problems for PUBG
Even though the Chinese partner Tencent quickly used its influence on the government to set up a special commission and take down a cheating ring in China, the cheating problem in PUBG is out of control: 1 million cheaters are reported to have been banned in January alone, but more keep coming.
Among PUBG players, it is clear: “The problem lies with China, and it would help to exclude them from our servers.” However, the PUBG Corporation does not want to know anything about a regional lock.

In any case, players from China currently have a rather bad reputation in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. And the burden of cheaters seems to slowly weigh down PUBG’s ascent, while competitor Fortnite prepares to overtake it.
Dr DisRespect yells “China Numba One” in poorly imitated accent
In a video tweet, musician Jimmy Wong shows the ugly side of this conflict. He has compiled clips of popular streamer Dr DisRespect mocking Chinese cheaters in games like PUBG or H1Z1 with an exaggeratedly bad dialect.
He yells “China Numba One” or loudly demands someone wake up and finally ban them: “They are everywhere.”
Jimmy Wong sees it as a huge problem when everyone is okay with how clearly stereotypes are propagated here. For him, this is open racism.
Dr DisRespect finds this ridiculous and emphasizes that his circle of friends consists of many different nations and cultures. That’s how he was raised. His wife also has Filipino roots. An idiot on Twitter accuses him of racism to gain attention.
Is this already racist?
Wong points out that while he is aware of the problems with Chinese players in H1Z1 and PUBG, those problems do not give anyone the right to mock their language openly. The streamer should just stop being an ass.
- Even in many comments on gaming sites, people are rather aggressive towards Dr DisRespect. They ask, for example, why he brings up his love for his wife when he cheated on her just before. Furthermore, the argument “I even have foreign friends” is seen as problematic. One can behave racially without being racist.
- However, there are also many voices that stand by Dr Disrespect and find the accusations exaggerated, particularly on Twitter. They believe such accusations are overly sensitive and that critics should not make a fuss.
Dr DisRespect finds accusations ridiculous, but they have achieved something
Even though Dr Disrespect dismisses the accusations as ridiculous, they apparently made him think. A little later, when he impersonates Belgian action star Jean Claude Van Damme, he pauses briefly to clarify: “This is not racism. This is a tribute.
