Recently, the new Doom: The Dark Ages was revealed at the XBOX Games Showcase. While the trailer consists almost entirely of gameplay, the players’ interest is almost more focused on the crazy weapons. Now, a developer has spoken about it.
What kind of weapons are they? The new “Doom: The Dark Ages” trailer thrilled fans of the series. ID Software showcased nearly two minutes of gameplay in the trailer. However, the viewers also focused on the three different weapons that were featured in the trailer.

The weapons in the new installment of the Doom series not only look brutal, they also have equally fitting names.

“We are very good at naming.”
What are the names of the weapons from the trailer? Three weapons stand out in the trailer, which Doom’s creative director Hugo Martin comments on.
He says that the studio has made it their mission to “design the weapons in a way that they feel like the most powerful ones you have ever held in a Doom game, like the Skull Crusher you saw in the teaser.”
The Skull Crusher crushes skulls to fire at enemies. A weapon that probably only exists in Doom. The studio was creative in naming the weapons. “It’s called Skull Crusher because it crushes skulls,” he chuckles in an interview with Gamesradar.
Even with the other weapons, the creative director stays true to himself. The shield with the built-in chainsaw is called Shield Saw. “Then we have the Shield Saw, because it’s a chainsaw and a shield,” says Martin in the interview.
The last weapon from the trailer is a kind of spear thrower that quickly shoots long bolts. “The Rail Spike Gun is also shown in the teaser – we call it that because it shoots massive spikes,” says Martin. He believes the team is “very good at naming things.”
When is Doom: The Dark Ages supposed to be released? The release of the new Doom title is scheduled for 2025. The game is set to appear on PS5, XBOX Series X, PC, and in the Gamepass. This will make the new Doom one of the first games from Microsoft that will also be released on the Playstation. As the name suggests, the game sends you to the Middle Ages.
