Doom: FPS lock is lifted – Mixed review of the open beta

In recent days, gamers have been able to take a look at the hellish shooter in the open beta of Doom. The community’s reactions are mixed, especially on PC, the shooter has faced a lot of criticism so far. However, the developers at idSoftware will respond quickly to a expressed point of criticism.

The frame lock will be removed in Doom

As the developer Tiago Sousa officially announced via Twitter, the FPS lock on PC will be eliminated. Currently, the FPS is limited to 60 frames per second. Since Doom is a fast-paced shooter that relies on reaction and speed, this news should please many PC users – provided the computer allows for a higher frame rate.

Open beta criticism of Doom is rather mixed

Many Steam reviewers evidently expected a different game with the new Doom and refer to the series’ origins. The shooter is said to resemble a “Call of Duty” knockoff too much, the controls are optimized for gamepads and require less experience. The graphics quality is also only moderate. At least regarding the FPS, idSoftware now wants to improve.

On consoles, the reactions to the open beta were significantly more positive, on average, almost maximum ratings were given on Xbox One and Playstation 4. Players praise the fast and entertaining gameplay, but also the striking brutality.

Doom will be released on May 13 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Whether the FPS unlock for PC will be implemented by then is still unclear.

For those who want to spontaneously check out the open beta of Doom, the developers are offering another test day. It was supposed to end on Monday at 6 AM, but idSoftware is now extending it by 24 hours. So, “fight like hell”!
