If you think you can snag a lot of bargains during the Epic Mega Sale, you might want to hold back on your purchases. Because if you buy too much, you will be blocked.
What is the problem? Some players report that their Epic account was blocked after purchasing multiple games during the Epic Mega Sales for further purchases.
Bought too much? Account gets blocked!
When is the account blocked? According to the affected customers, it can happen after just five purchases that one can no longer use their account for further purchases. Then players must contact support.
Why is the account blocked? Epic Games has commented on this issue. The block is not due to the fact that players should buy only a limited number of titles, but the system detects many consecutive purchases as potential fraud. As a result, the account is automatically blocked.
The problem lies with the absence of a shopping cart. Games must always be purchased individually, and no “bulk orders” can be placed. However, if many purchases are made in quick succession, an algorithm detects potential fraud.
How is Epic Games addressing this? PR manager Nick Chester only suggests that players should contact support if they are affected by this issue.
Whether there will be an adjustment of the fraud regulations is currently unknown.
This is what frustrates customers: This is already the second problem surrounding the Epic Mega Sale. A few days ago, some publishers and developers pulled games like Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 and Borderlands 3 from the sale, as the discounts had negative effects on sales.
Furthermore, customers are increasingly mocking the store itself, as it lacks many technical features that could prevent these issues:
- This includes the ability to simply remove a game from a sale without having to completely remove it from the store.
- Or the option to purchase multiple games through a shopping cart instead of individually, which the system sees as potential fraud when buying in larger quantities.
