Square Enix released the launch trailer for the MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers at E3 2019. The trailer showcases a special twist in the story, as well as new enemies and villains.
What can be seen in the press conference trailer? The launch trailer provides a deep insight into the story of the new expansion Shadowbringers. Until now, it was only known that players must travel to the world of The First to stop the flood of light.
Now the trailer gives more information about the story and especially about the roles of the two gods of FFXIV, Hydaelyn and Zodiark. It seems to confirm one of the theories that FFXIV players had about the gods.

What were the players’ theories? For a long time, theories have circulated in the community about who the goddess of light, Hydaelyn, really is.
The behavior of some NPCs and their dialogues led many to suspect that she is not as nice and benevolent as it appears to the player throughout the story.
With the expansion Shadowbringers, this suspicion is now confirmed: Hydaelyn is referred to as a Primal. Primals are typically enemies of the player character and their NPC friends.
They influence the thoughts of humans and force them to worship the Primals to gain more power. These humans then lose their own will forever. This drastically changes Hydaelyn’s role within the FFXIV storyline.
Is this theory really true? The statement that Hydaelyn is a Primal, however, comes from one of the Ascians. These are the main antagonists of Final Fantasy XIV.
Yoshida stated, however, that in the Shadowbringers expansion, the truth about Hydaelyn and Zodiark will come to light. Therefore, it is highly likely that he meant this Primal statement.
