For many players an important question: Does my hero say something? For the new online game Anthem, there is now an answer: The character will have a voice. You will also be able to customize the hero, but not as much as in previous BioWare titles.
This is what BioWare says about the “mute” question: BioWare has answered one of the important questions: “Can the character speak?”
In an interview with Comicbook, Mike Gamble stated that in Anthem, the hero will indeed have a voice. You will not play a mute hero like in Dragon Age: Origins.
However, BioWare has not yet revealed much more useful information about what the voice will sound like or how it will be customized.
It is only said that Anthem will take the “traditional binary route”. This probably means that players will have the choice of whether to choose a male or female voice.
Why this matters: Many players criticize that in Destiny 2, most of the time, except for a few exceptions, you remain silent. Some feel like they are playing a buffoon who only follows orders and has nothing to say.
This is a matter of belief for many:
- Should the player’s hero be able to speak, so as not to just stand by like a statistic while others advance the story?
- Or should the hero remain silent, allowing players to imagine that they themselves are truly the hero who acts.
Customization of the actual character is possible, but not so extreme
This is what Gamble also says about character customization: In an interview with Comicbook, the producer promises that there will be many options for creating your own character – but not as many as in previous BioWare titles.
The main reason for the reduction in character customization is that it is more important for players to customize their suits and make them unique.
Anthem will give freelancers many options. The customization of the character has no impact on how the suit ultimately looks.
Additionally, the cutscenes in Anthem will be shown from a first-person perspective. When speaking to an NPC, you look at them from your own character’s perspective.
For these reasons, BioWare did not invest many resources in allowing players to customize their own characters.
