In Fortnite , developer Epic might try something brand new: a massive boss fight across multiple servers. The opponent could be the Ice King, a sort of hybrid between Arthas from WoW and the Night King from Game of Thrones.
This is the theory: Some evidence suggests that developer Epic has come up with something entirely new and massive for Fortnite: Battle Royale: a gigantic boss fight.
It would be a battle of millions of players against a huge foe with a massive health point display.
Players would fight this super opponent in various instances and die, but ultimately deal enough damage to take him down. All damage dealt by a player anywhere in the world would affect this boss on all servers.
It would be possible that in each match players have 5 to 10 minutes to gear up before the boss appears. The hope would be that players don’t kill each other but concentrate their firepower on the boss.
This would be a gigantic event and surely create a stir. Such coups keep Fortnite fresh and in the conversation.
Why do people believe this? With the last patch, an iceberg in Fortnite suddenly received a health point display of 5 billion HP. However, it steadily decreased as players on various servers started hitting the iceberg.
Some consider this a huge test of Epic’s Unreal Engine for such a “multi-server” boss fight.
Moreover, something like this spectacle is currently brewing in the world of Fortnite:
- A huge snowball is displaying images of the Ice King.
- He is also seen in loading screens summoning a storm.
- Additionally, datamining findings about an event “Ice Storm” suggest that players will have to defeat the zombies of the Ice Legion.
Can we really expect such things from Epic? We can expect anything from Epic. It would be a mix of two ideas that have already created a stir in Fortnite:
- In May 2018, Thanos visited as a sort of boss, flipping the idea of “Battle Royale” on its head during an event – players could transform into Thanos
- In November 2018, there was a massive live event where 8 million players logged in simultaneously to see a cutscene
A massive boss fight could top that.
What kind of final boss could this become? It seems to revolve a lot around the Ice King from Fortnite. This is a character introduced with Season 7.
He resembles well-known figures from pop culture like the Lich King Arthas from World of Warcraft or the “Night King” from Game of Thrones.
Both characters have an affinity for ice and command countless ice zombies.
It is also possible that the Ice King only appears as a summoner, and players might have to fight against a dragon.
When will all this take place? It is still unclear whether Fortnite is actually planning such a boss fight or if other plans are in place. Something is definitely brewing.
Tonight, on Saturday, at 8:00 PM, a countdown will end, and a live event will likely start.
However, it is possible that this is just the beginning of a series of events that will eventually lead to a boss battle at the end of Season 7.
