Will FIFA 22 have crossplay? It’s the same question that players ask themselves every year. Whether the latest installment of the series finally offers such a feature and what else you should know, we reveal to you here on MeinMMO.
What about the crossplay feature of FIFA 22? The short answer is: Unfortunately, this installment does not offer a proper crossplay feature either. It will not be possible to play with PC players if you are playing on consoles.
A cross-gen feature is also missing, as it was in FIFA 21. It is not possible to play with the PS5 version against the PS4 version, or with the Xbox Series X against the Xbox One. The only option is to load the PS4 version on the PS5 and then play against friends on the old console; the same applies to the Xbox variants.
However, there is no free upgrade to NextGen with the standard edition of FIFA 22 anymore. Only in the more expensive Ultimate Edition can you get both versions.
Will FIFA 23 come with crossplay?
Reasons for it: A leak from FIFA data miner Donk (via Twitter) claims that FIFA 23 will offer a crossplay feature. And not just that. Allegedly, the successor to FIFA 22 is also supposed to break with the series tradition and become free-to-play. (via charlieintel.com)
Until now, players had to pay the full price for a new FIFA installment every year. According to Donk, this is supposed to change from FIFA 23 onwards.
This would mean FIFA would take the same path that the “Pro Evolution Soccer” series wants to pursue this year. With eFootball, Konami aims to transform its football simulation into a platform to continuously build upon, rather than developing a new installment every year.
eFootball will thus be a free-to-play installment. Whether FIFA 23 will actually take this path is currently unclear.
When will FIFA 22 be released? The official release is on October 1, 2021. Buyers of the Ultimate Edition can already play since today (September 27) thanks to early access.
Initial reactions are mainly about the slower and more realistic pace of the latest installment, which has directly caused controversies. The goalkeepers are also traditionally a topic of discussion – some find them too strong, while others find them just right.
