After the developers at Bioware have not ruled out PvP for the future of Anthem, we wanted to know from you in a survey what you think about it. Here are the results.
At the release of the shared-world shooter Anthem, there will be no PvP features. However, the developers have commented on it and they are very interested in PvP for the future.
But we wanted to know from you: Do you want PvP in Anthem? We started a survey about it, and this is how it turned out.
Over 1400 readers participated. The result is quite clear:
- 72% of the participants voted “No”
- 15% would be happy about PvP
- 13% don’t care if Anthem adds PvP or not
How did the result come about?
Why are many put off by PvP? Many players have already played games like Destiny 2 and The Division. Both games are similar to Anthem. Both games have issues balancing gear in PvP and PvE.
There are constant changes that require further adjustments. The balancing is changed regularly through updates. Interested players likely want to avoid something like that for Anthem.
The desire for pure PvE gameplay is high: Some draw comparisons with Borderlands. Apparently, there is a larger group of players who wish for a PvE cooperative experience without any competitive elements.
What do our readers say about PvP in Anthem?
After this survey, although a majority of readers are against PvP in Anthem, there was a lively discussion in which arguments for and against PvP features were mentioned. We show you some comments.
- Freez951 thinks it’s good without PvP. However, “varied loot, an interesting skill system, and a really good story” are important so he can spend a lot of time there. Thus, Anthem must offer enough alternatives to get by without PvP.
- SVBgunslinger believes that the absence of PvP in Anthem is one of the reasons why the game is “completely uninteresting” for him. PvE becomes boring over time to motivate, while in PvP you never know what to expect.
- Manchmal_aber thinks there are already enough PvP games on the market. Therefore, Anthem should “shine with PvE”. Balancing gear for PvP activities could become a problem.
- Bert writes that a separate loot pool would be a solution to integrate PvP. “Anthem is set in a futuristic world, so it’s certainly lore-wise possible that the gear only works in specific areas.” Thus, such a system could also be logically packaged.
- Fly doesn’t need PvP. He likes the comparison with Borderlands, where the main focus is on finding good gear. He fears that PvP might negatively affect the PvE area. A lack of PvP mode is not a problem with the game, “but a ‘problem’ of the respective player and their expectations/preferences.” Those who get bored without PvP might have chosen the wrong game.
- DevilRon1989 believes that there aren’t enough infos yet to assess how Anthem will manage without PvP. However, he points out that games like The Division or Destiny would have been empty in tough times without their PvP modes, if there hadn’t been the Dark Zone and the Crucible.
- ZappBrannigen doesn’t need it; he is already annoyed by Destiny 2 because he “has to go into the Crucible for certain weapon quests”. However, he wouldn’t mind if PvE and PvP content were separated. But he also fears balancing issues.
- DerFrek thinks it’s too early to say anything in this direction. In principle, he believes a pure PvE game is possible, as there are indeed games “that don’t need PvP to be good and still engage you, whether because they’re fun or have a lot to offer”.
- NÖ, Scofield, Tebo and other readers fear that PvP could lead to a toxic community. In their opinion, competitive modes attract trolls and players that are rude or spread negativity through stupid actions.
