In Pokémon GO you get the chance to catch a Pikachu with a detective hat starting this evening, May 7th. We will show you how to get the event Pikachu.
What kind of Pikachu is this? This event Pikachu is specially available for the movie “Detective Pikachu”, which comes to theaters on May 9th. In line with this, Niantic is hosting an event in Pokémon GO, where you can catch the Pikachu from the movie.
This event starts this evening, May 7th, at 10 PM. From then on, you will also be able to catch the special Pikachu.
How to get Pikachu: This special Pikachu cannot be caught in the wild; it can only be obtained through a photobomb. To help you with this, we will show you here how to encounter Pikachu.
This is how the photobomb with event Pikachu works
What you need to do: The principle is the same as the encounter with Farbageagle. You need to use your GO Snapshot.
- Go to your Pokémon collection
- Select any Pokémon and click on the camera icon at the top right
- Look for your Pokémon in your surroundings and wait for it to appear
- Take a picture of your Pokémon
- Check the image to see if a Pikachu with a hat has jumped into the frame in the lower corner of the photo
- If the Pikachu is in the image, close your camera and the Pikachu will appear as a wild spawn next to you
- Catch Pikachu just like any other Pokémon
How many pictures you need to take: You only need to take one photo per Pokémon. If no Pikachu appears in that image, it will not appear in the following pictures either.
If the Pikachu does not appear in the first picture, you can take the next Pokémon from your collection and take a picture of it.
This trick makes it easier: If you have trouble finding the Pokémon in AR+ mode, you can turn off this mode in the settings.
Then only the normal AR mode will work, and the Pokémon will appear directly. In return, the image may not look as realistic.
Is there a Shiny Pikachu with a detective hat?
Many players want the Shiny form of this special Pikachu. After all, there was also a Pikachu with Ash’s cap as Shiny from the photobomb on April 1st.
This is what was said: YouTuber Reversal, who is in direct contact with Niantic, confirmed that there will be no Shiny Pikachu with this hat. Whether this Shiny form will come into the game at some point remains to be seen.
