Bosses are one of the features that Valheim makes so special among survival games. The fights are cool and challenging, but for some players, they are too hard – for others, even too easy. Which camp do you belong to?
What are bosses? The strongest opponents in Valheim are the mythical bosses, which you first have to summon at their altars. Bosses mark the conclusion of a chapter in the game by granting you access to the next area.
Therefore, you should ideally face a boss only when you have upgraded your equipment as much as possible.
The partly gigantic opponents reward you with items that you need to obtain or process better materials. Accordingly, you need a lot of preparation for a boss fight.
The feeling of finally having defeated a boss and being able to continue in the game is the reason why boss fights in Valheim are so incredibly satisfying.
What bosses are there? Currently, Valheim offers five bosses for each of the currently playable biomes:
- Eikthyr in the Meadows
- The Elder in the Dark Woods
- Bonemass in the Swamp
- Moder in the Mountains
- Yagluth in the Plains

Opinions about bosses vary widely
What makes the bosses hard or easy? Whenever we write something about bosses, there are differing opinions in the comments. The boss Bonemass, for example, is considered the hardest boss and was made even stronger after player complaints.
It is so challenging because it introduces proper mechanics like poison and resistances that players must pay attention to. For experienced survival fans and RPG players, this is less surprising.
However, since Valheim also attracts newcomers, they find it harder to deal with such things. Accordingly, opinions about the bosses range from “too easy” to “too hard.” We now want to know from you: How hard do you find the bosses of Valheim?
Are there more bosses? The developers have already promised that each of the new biomes will also receive a boss. A total of nine are planned, plus additional mini-bosses if the opportunity arises. Three more biomes are already known:
- Ashlands in the south
- Deep North
- Foglands
All three biomes are already in the game and can be explored. Currently, however, there is nothing there. However, there are already indications that you will find the next biome, the Foglands, really disgusting.
