The interactions in Baldur’s Gate 3 are some of the best that the gaming scene has produced in recent years. However, the companions also have some really nasty remarks that players are now compiling on reddit.
What happened? On reddit, user why_not_zoidberg_82 asks which insults other players particularly liked – for whatever reason. As a trigger for the post, why_not_zoidberg_82 cites the encounter with a cat in Baldur’s Gate:
Mine is from a cat in Act 3, which mumbles that it is going on an adventure. And I happily went along and said: ‘Take me with you!’ And the cat just turned me down and said I was immature for trusting a stranger blindly. That’s even worse than being mocked by Lazarus about my love life.

The post quickly gathered over 900 replies, in which players shared the nastiest remarks from the game. However, most of them relate to the romance options with the companions.
Astarion, King of nasty heartbreakers
We’ve already reported that Astarion can be a really mean guy in Act 3 before. However, he can also treat you condescendingly much earlier. Two of his comments from the party at the end of Act 1 are among the most upvoted responses in the reddit post when he is not that into you:
It’s not you, it’s me… I have standards.

The second remark can come in the same conversation when you choose other dialogue options:
I’m talking about sex, darling. Not with you, of course! Can you imagine?

If your relationship is not the best and you want to take him to the love oracle in Act 3, he delivers this line:
Wait, I’m the one you love? Oh no – oh, that’s so sad. But no, that will not happen at all.
Astarion in Baldur’s Gate 3 Act 3
Astarion is an absolute fan favorite, making the open rejection hurt even more. According to Larian’s community update #23 from August 11, 2023, almost 100,000 players had been rejected by him by then. And this, despite the companions being particularly eager for player characters due to a bug.
… but all companions can be mean
Of course, Astarion is not the only NPC who can really hit the player character hard. You can ask any character to be the love oracle in Act 3. However, if they reject you, some really harsh remarks can also come here. Here are a few highlights:
- Shadows Heart: ‘I say you should better hurry to find your true love. Because I am not it.’
- Halsin: ‘Nature is my true love. I only tolerate you.’
- Lae’zel: ‘I would rather chop off both hands and throw myself to a crazy wild boar as food.’
- Gale: ‘Maybe you’re overestimating my affection for you a little? Better find another partner in embarrassment.’
Interesting is Gale’s choice of words, who threw himself at almost every player before the fix of the romance bug.
In the same circus in Act 3, where you can take the love test, you also find the djinn Akabi. His insults have also made it far up on reddit. But if you don’t let them get to you too much, you can visit a secret dinoland.
