Artifact weapons are one of the core elements of World of Warcraft: Legion. They are, along with legendary items, the strongest in the game. Many people wish that the skins could still be transmogrified after Legion because of the stories behind the artifacts.
In yesterday’s Q&A with Ion Hazzikostas and Josh Allen, the question arose whether there is already a final decision on whether artifact templates can be unlocked for transmogrification, whether they will only be available for Legion, and whether they will be bound to the class or specialization.

Templates as Transmogrifikation collectible – with restrictions
Since artifact weapons were originally planned as a “Legion-Only” feature, Hazzikostas’ answers are somewhat surprising:
- The original plan was that templates could be used during Legion and would disappear with the next expansion. But the more it was thought about, the less satisfied people were with this decision.
- At the moment, a system is being planned where players can collect artifact templates as transmogrification. The system is also intended for upcoming expansions, so players can fulfill the tasks in Legion again to collect the templates. This should be possible even if Legion was never played.
- The only exceptions will be templates that reflect the player’s skill. This includes, among other things: All templates from the Mage Tower, achievements in PvP, and the template for successfully completing a Mythic +15 dungeon.

The decisions are still not final. These are merely thoughts being played with and are slowly solidifying. However, the team would find it a shame if these skins would never appear again after Legion.
It is not planned, however, to add further artifact templates with patch 7.3 or later.
What is your opinion? Should the artifact skins remain part of Legion and not be carried over? Or should only people who are currently playing be allowed to transmogrify?
By the way, with patch 7.3, all relic slots will be unlocked upon reaching level 110!
