Disney, in collaboration with the Chinese software giant Tencent, has announced a new Avatar game. The MMORPG is set to feature single-player, multi-player, and co-op content and will be playable on iOS and Android. We at MeinMMO summarize.
What is known so far? Very little. We know that the new MMORPG is to be called Avatar: Reckoning and is supposed to offer both single-player and multi-player content.
The game is being developed by Archosaur Games, a company also based in China, known primarily for the titles World of Kings and Dragon Raja. There is not much to see yet of the new Avatar game, except for a single piece of artwork that does not yet show any game graphics.
Furthermore, Reckoning is not only supposed to be an MMORPG but will also include shooter content. The game is intended to be an MMO RPG Shooter Game, as the developers title it on the website.
Where can you play? Avatar: Reckoning is initially set to be released only for iOS and Android devices, as indicated on the game’s website. Whether there will be crossplay between the two mobile devices is currently unknown.
Also, whether the title can be played on PC in its original version or through other means is currently unknown. It is conceivable that the title could also be playable on PC through a technology like Google Play Games.
When can you play? This is also currently unknown. What is clear is that the MMORPG with the blue warriors is supposed to be released sometime in 2022. Currently, you can sign up for a newsletter on the official website.
Whether there will be a beta beforehand is unfortunately also still unknown. However, that would be a good opportunity to try out the game before release.
Also still unknown is the business model of the title and whether it will even be released in Europe.
The community reacts rather mixed
What problems do people see? In a reddit thread on the topic, the mood is currently quite mixed. Some people are looking forward to more than just a new Avatar game being released.
Other users see a problem in playing a shooter MMORPG on a smartphone. Many fans are also bothered by the partnership with the controversial company Tencent.
Recently, the company released a technology that prohibits all Chinese under 18 from gaming at night and has faced heavy criticism for it.
What do the fans say? To give you an idea of the mood in the thread, we would like to share some comments from the community (via reddit).
- British_Commie writes: ‘This looks a bit like Disney wants to promote their new Avatar movie on all possible levels. I think over the year we can’t ignore Avatar as a franchise anymore, and I can’t wait!’
- Bloodblade is skeptical and says: ‘MMO..mobile..Shooter..? Somehow like Destiny 2 but for mobile, I think? I’ll at least give it a try.’
- Sea_Blacksmith writes: ‘As hyped as I am to finally shoot RDA soldiers, I really don’t want to play a shooter on a mobile phone.’
What do you think of the announcement? Will you try the game when it comes out, or do you see it similarly to some comments on reddit and have no desire for a mobile shooter? Or are you really excited because it could be a really good mobile MMO? Feel free to let us know in the comments here at MeinMMO.
Avatar: Reckoning is not the only Avatar game we might see this year: All information about Avatar – Frontiers of Pandora.
