What is it? Even the developers of 1047 Games do not shy away from the comparison: Splitgate is best summarized as “Halo meets Portal.” These three words aptly describe what players can expect in this free-to-play shooter.
Like Halo Infinite, it is an arena shooter. This means it has a much longer TTK than CoD or Battlefield, and instead of loadouts, weapons are scattered across the map. Both aspects together create enjoyable and fun variation in gameplay speed.
What makes Splitgate special compared to all other shooters – be it Halo, CoD, or Battlefield – are the portals: players can create 2 portals at certain locations on the map at any time. They can do so over any distance and as often as they like. These two portals are directly linked and allow players to use them as desired. In this way, you can be at the other end of the map in seconds – or shoot through the portals.

Grenades in Splitgate deal no damage but only close enemy portals. Headshots also deal more damage than body shots – unlike Halo. Thus, a good player can differentiate themselves more clearly from the average player than in Microsoft’s competing product.
