Director Francis Lawrence provided an update on the current status of the horror and superhero film from DC, Constantine 2. The sequel is set to be even darker than the first part.
In February 2005, Constantine was released, a superhero film with horror elements. A few years later, in late 2020, it was announced that the film would receive a sequel (via Filmstarts).
Now there is an update: On November 21, 2023, director Francis Lawrence, who also worked on The Hunger Games – The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, gave an interview to The Hollywood Reporter. He also addressed the current status of the sequel to the DC film.

After some delays, it should now get going
What did the director say in the interview? In the interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the director discussed the hurdles that have recently complicated the work on Constantine 2. He mentioned the personnel changes in the leadership ranks at DC as well as the strikes as factors.
However, he expressed optimism and stated that work on the project is ongoing:
The leadership team at DC has changed, and they have their plans. But fortunately, we managed to gain a little control [over the project] and have started working on some ideas for Constantine 2, which we are very excited about.
We are still at the very beginning, as the strike has stalled the work for a while. We will probably come together again after Thanksgiving and try to realize the project.

Thanksgiving was celebrated on November 23, 2023. So it can be assumed that work on the implementation of Constantine 2 is currently underway. Francis Lawrence also confirmed in the interview that his focus is now fully on the DC project.

What else do we know about Constantine 2? In an earlier interview with brobible, the director had already mentioned that the new film will be “very R-rated”. Additionally, lead actor Keanu Reeves will also be back.

When will Constantine 2 be released? A planned release date for the DC sequel has not yet been announced. There are currently no details about the plot of the Constantine sequel.
