A large survey was conducted on Reddit about Destiny 2. We have the results for you and how the game compares to its predecessor.
User SamHPL1 recently started a large-scale survey on Reddit, which aims to shed light on the gaming experience of Destiny 2, as well as the differences and similarities between Destiny 2 and Destiny 1. Almost 12,000 Guardians participated in this survey – so it certainly has weight.
Destiny 2: Gameplay top – Endgame and Customizing flop
The Guardians were asked about certain aspects of Destiny 2 and were allowed to rate them on a scale from 1 to 10, with 10 being the maximum value. The following topics were rated:
- The campaign was rated with an average of 6.77. Only 100 people chose the worst value of 1.
- The sound, as well as the graphics and design of the game world were each rated with an average of 9 points. This is a strong value and highlights what Bungie did right in Destiny 2.
- The Strikes (5.62), Lost Sectors and Adventures (5.81), as well as the social hubs (5.42) received less favorable ratings in the game. The Leviathan Raid is rated with an average score of 6.61. The patrol areas also perform decently with 6.99.
- The endgame and individual customizing options received the lowest ratings of 4.13 and 4.03, respectively. Weapons and armor also did not fare well with a score of 5.10.
A nuanced picture emerges from the PvP of Destiny 2. The average score is 5.05 points. Remarkably, 7 was the most frequently chosen answer, closely followed by 1. This shows how divided the community is regarding the multiplayer mode. By the way, the rarest response was the best score of 10.
At the end of the first part of the survey, all Guardians were asked to rate Destiny 2 as a whole. The result was an average score of 6.55. This is still better than the user ratings on Metacritic (5.5 for PS4 players, 4.3 for PC players).
Destiny 2 vs. Destiny 1 – Who performs better?
The Redditor, however, did not want to look at Destiny 2 separately, but also wanted to make a comparison with the predecessor. However, the survey results should be taken with caution, after all, Destiny 1 offered significantly more content by the end compared to Destiny 2 as it stands now. From this survey, we pick out some highlights again:
- The most popular campaign was the Year 2 expansion “The Taken King” with more than 50% of the votes. In second place is the story of Destiny 2 with 24.1%. The least liked is the “campaign” of Darkness Awaits.
- When asked about the better gameplay mechanics, Destiny 1 leads with 42.4% agreement. 34.9% believe both games are equally good, while only 22.8% of players think the gameplay in Destiny 2 is better.
- The question of the better weapon system can be clearly answered in favor of Destiny 1. The design of primary, special, and heavy weapons appeals significantly more to players. Two-thirds consider Destiny 1 to have the better game regarding the weapon system.
- Who has the better/more interesting locations? This question is won by Destiny 2 with Nessus (22.4%) and the EDZ on Earth with 22.1%. In third place is the Tomb Ship from Destiny 1. The least liked location overall is Mars from Destiny 1.
- The best social hub is also delivered by Destiny 2. With more than 35% of the votes, the Tower comes in first, followed by the Tower from the predecessor with 29%.
- The best strike from both Destiny installments is, according to the community, the Sunless Cell around Alak-Hul from Destiny 1. 19% chose this strike. In second place is the Pyramidion from Destiny 2 with 15.6% of the votes.
The answer to the question of the best raid of all time was not surprising. Many Guardians still consider the Vault of Glass to be the best raid, followed by Kingsfall and Wrath of the Machine. The Leviathan Raid comes in fourth, ahead of Crota’s End.
Which crucible is the best?
The question of the best PvP mode also takes into account the various balance changes that Bungie made throughout Destiny 1. For most Guardians, the Crucible during The Taken King represents the best experience, followed by Destiny 2.
When asked about the best crucible in general, Destiny 1 wins overwhelmingly with 81.8%. The most popular game mode in multiplayer is Control (35.5%), and the best PvP event is Iron Banner during Destiny 1. The Iron Banner of Destiny 2 finishes last in this category.
All about gear and classes
This category deals with weapons and the mechanics of the subclasses of each class. Across the board, Destiny 1 takes the lead:
- In response to the question about the best gear overall, an overwhelming majority voted for Destiny 1 (90.2%). Most Guardians also preferred the rerolling of weapons in Destiny 1 (54.7%). The weapon system with fixed rolls from Destiny 2 was favored by nearly 24% of all voters.
- Most (80%) preferred the subclass system in Destiny 1.
- The question about endgame also went clearly to Destiny 1 (90.2%). However, it should be noted that Destiny 1 offered significantly more content due to various expansions.
The final question about which game is better overall was won by Destiny 1 with more than 70% of the votes.
The survey confirms what many Guardians have complained about Destiny 2 in recent weeks. Lack of customization options and too little endgame content are gnawing at players’ motivation.
