The Pharmacist’s Diaries is currently the talk of the town. The 1st season of the anime has just aired on Crunchyroll, which is why many fans are now switching to the manga to continue following the story. However, the artist of the manga has just been prosecuted because she missed something important.
What happened to the artist? The drawings for The Pharmacist’s Diaries are the responsibility of Nekokurage, who is actually named Erika Ikeda. The tax authority of the Fukuoka region announced on April 1st that the artist was charged on February 29th for violating the Income Tax Law.
- Ikeda allegedly failed to declare an income of approximately 1.58 million euros.
- Of the 1.58 million euros, around 290,000 euros were taxable. The undeclared income was earned between 2019 and 2021.
- As reported by The Japan News, the evaded money was reportedly used for purchasing real estate, among other things.
The anime adaptation of The Pharmacist’s Diaries is currently experiencing great success:
The artist of The Pharmacist’s Diaries has committed tax evasion
Why didn’t she declare her income? According to NHK, Ikeda simply failed to make the tax declaration. She was aware that she should have submitted a tax return. However, she was so busy with the manga that she didn’t have time to speak with her tax advisor.
She posted her apology on X or Twitter:
What kind of penalty did she receive? After receiving the tax office’s instructions, she settled the taxes and penalties. She also hired a tax advisor to help her file her taxes on time. She has not disclosed any further consequences to the public.
She added that this is a purely personal matter. The tax evasion has nothing to do with the original author of “The Pharmacist’s Diaries.” And as it turns out, the tax evasion will not have any consequences for the light novel, the manga, and the currently very popular anime.
The Pharmacist’s Diaries originally began as a light novel, written by Natsu Hyuga and illustrated by Megumi Matsuda. Nekokurage is responsible for the drawings of the subsequent manga, for which Itsuki Nanao serves as the author.
Where can I watch the anime? Currently, The Pharmacist’s Diaries is available to watch on Crunchyroll. The platform has all episodes of the first season. It has been confirmed for the season finale that there will be a 2nd season, scheduled to be released in 2025.
The anime is not only well-rated, but it is also well-received by some writers on the MeinMMO editorial team. Especially the protagonist Maomao makes the anime worth watching. She is a real competitor for Sherlock Holmes, as she solves the most complicated cases in a charming way.
MeinMMO author Marie Friske explains why she finds the anime so good: Those who like Sherlock should definitely check out an anime featuring a brilliant pharmacist.
