The peripheral lineup for the PS4 expands in summer 2018. The custom manufacturer SCUF introduces a licensed, customizable alternative to Sony’s DualShock 4 controller.
With the SCUF Vantage, the PS4 will receive another licensed controller in summer 2018 – initially only in the USA and Canada. The new Vantage is aimed primarily at players looking for a high-quality input device with customizable buttons and functions.
Such features are particularly popular in competitive shooters. However, in titles such as Fortnite or Elite Dangerous, the SCUF Vantage can certainly make life easier for players. Various complex functions that usually require several hand movements or button combinations can thus be assigned to a single button.
For example, building with the standard PS4 controller in Fortnite can quickly become cumbersome. The fingers need to switch rapidly between buttons. With the Vantage, you can conveniently assign such functions to a single button or paddle. Complicated constructions become much simpler.
SCUF Vantage for PS4
Performance, ergonomics, and maximum customization are clearly the focus of the new PS4 input device.
The SCUF Vantage gamepad offers the following features:
- Additional side-mounted Sax buttons on the right and left. These buttons are optimized for natural finger positioning and provide additional configuration options for the player
- Removable front plate. This feature facilitates the swapping of thumb sticks and further personalization of the controller
- Advanced audio control system (wired connection required). An additional touchpad allows for volume adjustment without needing to take your hands off the gamepad
- Removable vibration modules. Players can reduce the weight of the Vantage and minimize hand fatigue
Additionally, the modular design of the controller offers a whole range of optional components. These parts are designed to optimize the input device’s customization to the player’s individual needs. This should help minimize hand and finger movements.
The following modules are included with the SCUF Vantage:
- Paddle system with up to four removable paddle switches on the back of the controller
- A quick-access switch for remapping
- Customizable thumb sticks in three different heights and either concave or convex design
- Adjustable trigger buttons
- Trigger stop limiters and trigger extensions
- Various D-pads
- Swapable magnetic front plate
Price, pre-order, and release date: The SCUF Vantage will be released in summer 2018. A more specific release date has not yet been announced.
The controller can already be pre-ordered on the official SCUF manufacturer website and on the US GameStop website. It is still unknown if and when this input device can be regularly pre-ordered and purchased in Europe.
There are two different versions of the Vantage:
- SCUF Vantage with fixed cable for 169.95 USD
- SCUF Vantage Wireless Bluetooth/optional cable for 199.95 USD
Both models include a range of interchangeable parts and a high-speed micro-USB cable. The wireless model comes with an additional protective cover for the controller.
The gamepad is currently still in development. Some functions and features may still change.
