Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel sends you to hell – the Nordic version. You can currently try out the combination of Diablo 4 and Vampire Survivors on Steam.
What kind of game is this? Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel is a roguelike action game where you fight your way out of Helheim, the realm of the dead in Norse mythology.
As part of the Steam Next Fest 2024, the developers have released a free demo of Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel, which includes an additional class. It is still playable due to high demand, as the developers revealed on Steam – but only for a limited time.

Vampire Survivors in dark 3D graphics
How does Hordes of Hel play? You look down at your character from a slight angle and move through the map while being attacked by hordes of monsters. Your character automatically targets nearby enemies, so you don’t have to manually click on each opponent.
At the beginning, the game throws easy enemies like spiders at your feet, but with each round you survive, the enemy hordes grow larger and more dangerous. In later waves, bosses also spawn. Before you slash your way through Helheim, you choose one of three different classes:
- The Berserker deals damage in close combat with his twin axes
- The Seer is magically gifted and uses spells
- The revenant possessed by a wolf spirit is a bowman and only playable in the Steam Next Demo
If you’re familiar with games like the popular Vampire Survivors on Steam, you’ll quickly feel at home here. In terms of gameplay, Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel is very similar. Visually and with its different classes, the game, however, resembles Diablo 4 more.
