There is confusion about the “Collector’s Box” in Diablo IV. What is it and why isn’t there a game included?
A few days ago, the release date for Diablo IV was announced at “The Game Awards”. In conjunction with this, various versions of the game are available for pre-order. However, one “game version” is causing confusion. Because if you think that the “Collector’s Box” is a collector’s edition of the game, you are mistaken.
What is this “Collector’s Box”? The Collector’s Box is explicitly not a “Collector’s Edition” of Diablo IV. It is an additional package, of which only “a limited quantity” will be produced, containing some goodies related to Diablo. Included are:
- Candle of Creation
- Fabric Map of Sanctuary
- Art Book: Diablo IV – Collector’s Edition
- Occult Mouse Pad
- Horadrim Collectible Pin
- 2 Matte Art Prints (47 cm x 27 cm)
The box will be presented in more detail on December 15 and can then only be pre-ordered in the Blizzard Gear Store.
Isn’t that misleading? No. Blizzard clearly states in the announcement that the “Collector’s Box” is not a game – this is prominently indicated in the presentation.
Even if one overlooks this note, one might have become skeptical about the price. Because the “Collector’s Box” costs $97 (Euro price still pending), while the most expensive digital version, the “Ultimate Edition,” costs a hefty $100.
However, some fans seem to have overlooked both notes and are now complaining about it in official forums.
What do you need to buy then? If you want to own Diablo IV and play it on release, you need to purchase one of the three versions available. The digital versions are available in the following formats:
- Standard Edition – €69.99
- Digital Deluxe Edition – €89.99
- Ultimate Edition – €99.99
Whether there will be a classic “Collector’s Edition” of Diablo IV is still not entirely clear. However, do not confuse it with the Collector’s Box – be vigilant when buying!
