The 20th anniversary of Diablo is an occasion for the Blizzard team to share their memories in this video with the fans.
It has been 20 years since Diablo was released. The game launched in North America on December 31, 1996, quickly captivating its first players. In 2000, Diablo 2 followed, which received the expansion Lord of Destruction the following year. This part of the Diablo story was also popular among players.
Since 2012, there has been Diablo 3 – the latest installment in the series. With Seasons, the developers regularly introduce new content to the game, providing players with new goals.
On the anniversary, Jeff Kaplan and other Blizzard employees reflect on the history of the hack and slash title.
Diablo: Stories, Action, and Loot
One of the initial ideas concerning Diablo was to design this game as a turn-based RPG. Interesting moments and memories are shared by the Blizzard employees in this video with the community. It features the most popular boss fights with the Butcher and other nasty characters from the Diablo universe.
This video gives an impression of what went on behind the scenes of Diablo. Initially, a few thousand players played the game, but soon it became many more. The project grew so large that it was no longer a part-time job for the employees, but a dedicated team was needed for it. Because the game was so important, Blizzard established the BattleNet team for this purpose.
The anniversary of this game series is also celebrated in all other Blizzard titles. There are gifts and bonuses in WoW, Overwatch, Hearthstone, HotS, and Starcraft 2.
