With Diablo Immortal, a new game from the popular hack-and-slash series is coming out in June. Many details are now known, but Blizzard is still tight-lipped about the shop. However, it was Pay2Win in the beta, as YouTuber Gregg2G shows. He estimates that one would need about $50,000 to organize the best equipment.
What is the problem with Diablo Immortal?
- Diablo Immortal will be free-to-play and will also rely on a real-money shop. This worried some players because they feared Pay2Win.
- The shop was in focus at the announcement, but was somewhat forgotten afterwards. However, with the release date and the announcement of a PC version, interest in the game has clearly increased – and discussions are rising.
- The well-known Twitch streamer Asmongold has reacted to a video by YouTuber Gregg2G from April, which has received little attention so far. In the video, Gregg2G, who also writes guides for Diablo for Maxroll, explains why players are forced to spend money and how drastic the advantages can be.
- What is particularly noteworthy is that the Legendary Gems, which play an important role in Pay2Win, were actually made even stronger in the beta.
Note: Blizzard has already announced that the shop from the beta does not necessarily have to correspond to the final version. However, no adjustments have yet been revealed.

Diablo Immortal relies on Legendary Gems, which are best acquired through real money
Where is Diablo Immortal Pay2Win? The new game from Blizzard relies on Legendary Gems in the endgame, which can be equipped on items. You can equip a total of 6 Legendary Gems in your armor, which significantly improve your stats:
- They grant you additional life or attack power
- They provide you with additional unique effects
- They grant you offense rating and defense rating – this was only introduced with the beta
Legendary Gems come in the rarities of 1 star, 2 stars, and 5 stars. Each Legendary Gem can be upgraded to level 10. For this upgrade, you need Gem Power, which you only get by destroying Legendary Gems.
The maximum is therefore a Legendary Gem with 5 stars and rank 10. However, you would need to convert several dozen Legendary Gems into Gem Power for this.
Either grind forever – or the shop lures
You can craft Legendary Gems, but this is said to be particularly complicated. YouTuber Gregg2G says he managed to create a Legendary Gem at rank 10 in 3 months of beta. Some people estimate that it takes about 40 years to obtain the perfect equipment without spending real money.
Alternatives include trading on the marketplace with other players or the Battle Pass, which costs real money. However, you can only get gems of rank 1 and 2 there.
However, there is a much easier way to generate Legendary Gems: You buy Legendary Crests in the shop. Legendary Crests allow you to open an Elder Rift, a random dungeon that takes 3 to 5 minutes to complete. At the end, a random Legendary Gem as loot is guaranteed – a 5-star gem is also possible.
You can buy an unlimited number of Legendary Crests and complete the Elder Rifts. This way, you can acquire Legendary Gems faster than free-to-play players could ever dream of.
How significant is the difference? Gregg2G shows in his video a player named Fishkeen, who as a free-to-play player in the beta had equipment at level 17 and a Legendary Gem. This player has the following stats:
- 3,506 damage
- 51,486 health
- 3,510 offense rating
- 3,496 defense rating
Afterward, he shows a whale who has invested a lot of money. This player has poorer upgrades in the equipment (between level 11 and 16), but more Legendary Gems.
- 6,735 damage
- 75,209 health
- The ratings unfortunately cannot be seen when viewed, although they are not that important, as they have a cap in PvP
In addition, there are several better effects that come with the gems, such as summoning a wolf through attacks or increased magic find for higher chances at rare gear.
Although the whale has 5-star gems, they are “only” at rank 5. There, the last new effect on the gem is unlocked. However, gems grant additional stats when upgraded to rank 10.
Gregg2G believes that the difference with maximum gems is about 300% more damage and 300% more health in PvE, compared to Fishkeen above.
These stats and effects play a role not only in PvE but also in PvP. While the offense and defense ratings are capped in PvP, bonus effects, life, and damage are not.
Here, a second mechanic that is linked to the shop also comes into play.
Items can be “awakened”, but this costs 10 euros
What is the other mechanic? If you equip a piece of gear with a 1-star gem, you can perform an “awakening”. This grants the armor an additional effect, such as -10% cooldown on certain abilities.
This awakening cannot be done for free. You need a Dawning Echo, which you can buy for about 10 euros in the shop. There is no alternative for this.
If you awaken all of your items, you gain additional bonus effects, but will have to spend another 60 euros.
If you want the perfect equipment, according to Gregg2G, you have to spend about 50,000 euros. Another YouTuber estimates the expenses even at 75,000 euros.
Shop may still change
Will the game remain Pay2Win? This is currently uncertain. Blizzard has not shared any official information about the shop in the release version. It is quite possible that the current discussion or the echo around the release will lead to a change.
It is also possible that new methods will be introduced to earn Legendary Gems.
