With the latest update of Diablo Immortal, you can more easily acquire legendary gems in several ways. A fan calculated how you, as a pure Free2Play player, can make the most out of the changes.
What has changed: With the Update 1.5.2 from July 20, you now have multiple ways to acquire legendary gems:
- by participating in troop activities, you receive a legendary emblem every week for platinum
- in events, there are legendary emblems as rewards – among others, in the “Hungry Moon” event, which returns at the end of July
- for Fa runes, you can now also buy emblems at the jeweler
This results in a yield of at least 2 emblems per week if you complete all tasks, and up to 13 emblems per month, depending on events and your activity. Immortal players receive another emblem for hilt.
For Free2Play players, however, the Fa runes are the most interesting, as you mainly need them to get legendary gems for free. You obtain the sparks from elder portals.
The limit for these sparks has been increased from 200 to 280 per week – enough for 22 Fa runes, exactly the price of a legendary emblem. The player Delkredere on reddit has now calculated how you can best spend the important sparks for purchasing and upgrading gems.

How do I best utilize the sparks? In short: farm the sparks limit every week and use it to buy a legendary emblem, which you then use in an elder portal. The reason is the “merciful counter,” which guarantees you a ?/5 star gem for every 50th emblem.
You can also continue to craft gems directly, but there is no merciful mechanic there. Emblems are therefore more worthwhile, and the change has been received very well by many players. However, crafting for 22 Fa runes is unanimously regarded as useless, sometimes even as a “noob trap.”
You also need to pay attention to: A total of 400 sparks are possible per week: 280 by default and 120 more through the use of rare and legendary emblems.
Based on this, Delkredere calculated the following values so that you receive an average of just over 4 gem power per week, which you need for upgrading gems. However, consider that you can also sell the gems you obtain from the new emblems for platinum.
Depending on the market situation on a server, it may be worthwhile to sell particularly expensive gems and buy cheaper ones to destroy them for gem power. However, you should generally be able to generate the highest yield by buying and utilizing emblems.
By the way, gem power is not lost when upgrading gems. It simply transfers to the new gem. So if you want to use the new class switch but need different gems for it, you can simply use your old ones in the new ones.

Keep in mind, however, that the old gem will be destroyed. If you’re considering playing the old class again, you should probably keep the gem – especially if it’s a particularly rare or valuable one.
