Diablo Immortal is coming soon for Android, iOS, and PC. Just before the release, several journalists were able to speak with the developers. Some of the key topics: microtransactions and the shop. Because there was quite a bit of criticism.
Update: There is now new information about the release of Diablo Immortal. Blizzard released a new roadmap on May 26, but without further information about the shop.
What is being discussed?
- Diablo Immortal could be played in several alpha and beta tests even before the release. Players were quite positively surprised, after many were critical of the mobile game.
- Diablo Immortal will be Free2Play with an in-game shop. There have been larger discussions in the community about this. Some claimed that if you don’t pay, you would have to grind for the best gear for 40 years. There were items for purchase that could speed this up.
- Influencers also jumped in and partly explained, “how crazy Pay2Win” Immortal will be. The developers responded to the criticism and promised to make changes to the shop.
This is what the heads say: Joe Grubb is the Principal Game Designer of Diablo Immortal and has already spoken with us earlier about the changes since the beta. In an interview with the gaming website PCGamesN, the topic of the shop also came up.
Grubb promises there that microtransactions “will never circumvent the gameplay.” He says:
Optional purchases will always be a bonus […] One of our pillars is: “The best way to get more powerful in Diablo Immortal is to play the game.”
MeinMMO also had the opportunity to speak with heads and developers. We met with Wyatt Cheng (Game Director) and Peiwen Yao (Executive Producer). Cheng promised us something similar.
“We will never sell equipment”
How does the shop work now? In the interview, we briefly touched on the topic of microtransactions. However, Cheng promised us: in Diablo Immortal, there will never be equipment available for real money that makes you better.
If you want to get better, you have to be good. To be able to play the classes well, you need skill, and progress is made by playing – not by spending money. Cheng and Grubb agree on this. However, what exactly will be in the shop and what all this will cost, we will only find out at the release.
In our interview, the focus was mainly on the gameplay of Diablo Immortal and the future. If you are interested in how it will continue with the MMO after the release, check back on MeinMMO. The full interview will be published soon. A small teaser: we talked quite extensively about the battle pass and future content updates.

When can I play Diablo Immortal? On June 2, Diablo Immortal will be released for mobile devices and PC, albeit with a disadvantage there. You can then get your own impression of the free-to-play game and the shop, which is currently under criticism.
The developers already revealed to us that Diablo Immortal will continue to be developed as a living service game. So if there are still problems with the shop at release, it is not excluded that this will change again.
