Even before the launch of the MMORPG Torchlight Frontiers, all owners of a PS4, Xbox One, and Switch can play the action RPG Torchlight 2. The popular title on PC is set to release for consoles this fall.
What is Torchlight 2? The hack ‘n slash in the style of Diablo was released in September 2012 for PC and quickly won the hearts of action RPG fans.
The catchy, fast-paced gameplay, interesting endgame content, and the fun grind for better loot ensure that Torchlight 2 still has a “very positive” rating of 88% on Steam.
Playing Torchlight 2 on Console
What was announced? The developer studio Runic Games and publisher Perfect World surprisingly announced the release of the game for PS4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch. The version is set to launch in the fall, with an exact date yet to be announced.
The new version features some improvements, which the developers have not yet discussed.
What about the controls? Torchlight 2 should feel just as good with a controller as it does with mouse and keyboard. This is an essential point, as the title plays very simply and intuitively on PC. It must remain so on consoles as well.
What about multiplayer? Unlike the first Torchlight, the PC version of Torchlight 2 can be played with up to six players. This works in LAN or online.
Are there mods? The mod scene for Torchlight 2 is quite active. Fans introduce new dungeons or alter the classes, making them feel different.
Whether mod support is available in the console version is currently unclear.
Who is Torchlight 2 suitable for? The hack ‘n slash represents a fast alternative for all Diablo fans. It is not as complex as Diablo 2, but the cooperative battles against hordes of monsters and the search for loot are a lot of fun.

What about Part 1? Torchlight 1 will likely remain limited to PC owners – and users of an Xbox One. There is no information on a release of the first game on current consoles.
