The demoness Lilith is partly responsible for the creation of Sanctuary and the greatest antagonist in Diablo 4. Four months after the release, some players wonder why they could never align themselves with the demoness.
Who is Lilith? Lilith is the daughter of Mephisto, the Lord of Hatred and one of the three Prime Evils. Lilith has many names and titles – including Daughter of Hatred. Together with the archangel Inarius, she created Sanctuary.
She is the “Mother” of all humans and thus also the “Mother” of all characters we have played since Diablo 1. She once even saved us from being extinguished – but not out of charity. In her heart, she is evil.
On Reddit, the user Haelwin wrote on September 19 that he still wonders why players never had the opportunity to side with the demoness. He is disappointed.

Why is the player disappointed? In his post in the Diablo 4 subreddit, Haelwin writes that he is very disappointed to have to kill Lilith. He addresses the other players, as his hope does not seem to have completely faded:

The ending is very convincing from Lilith’s perspective, even though her actions are not good, her reasons are just, and I still don’t like that we just… killed her, and I was sooo disappointed.

This is what other players say about it: A comment with over 300 upvotes comes from drunkpunk138: “I find it strange how people look at the reasons and not the consequences of Lilith’s trampling and think: ‘Yeah, she’s right, you know’.”
One user points out that this shows how easily people can be manipulated. And with the supposedly good Inarius, no better option is really presented.
Bads-R-Mads comments: “In the end, it becomes clear that this was all just a power play for Lilith and she couldn’t care less about humanity. She wants to end the war just like everyone else and believes that the way to do this is through the enslavement of humanity (or more precisely, the Nephalem).”
salmonchaser writes in his comment, “that [Lilith] constantly convinces people to work with her, even though it is clearly evil to do so. If we worked with her, we would basically be like Neyrelle’s mother from Act 1.”
Some players believe they saw her in the ending scene of Diablo 4 and speculate about a return of the Mother of Hatred. Other players discuss the demoness’s choice of clothing.
