The new action RPG Diablo 4 will offer 5 classes at release. MeinMMO helps you find the best class for you.
What classes are there? Diablo 4 launches with 5 different classes:
- Barbarians focusing on close combat and weapons
- Druids who cast nature magic and transform
- Hunters who fight with bow, poison, and dagger
- Necromancers with their undead companions
- Sorceresses who harness the elements for destructive magic
In Diablo 4, the classes are fundamentally different, not just through varying armors or a few spells. Each even has a unique class mechanic only available to that class.
Which class is the best? Generally, all classes are quite balanced and have their strengths and weaknesses. Play what suits you best. You can find the ranking in our class tier list for Diablo 4.
Our list here is meant to give you an impression of which class suits you. Because no matter how good a class may be: if it doesn’t suit you, it will neither be fun nor powerful.
How good is the Barbarian?
This is what Barbarians can do: Barbarians rely on pure melee combat and have few options to attack opponents from a distance. However, they can unleash earthquakes and summon the spirits of their ancestors with their rage.
The melee fighters rely on pure brutality and physical power to defeat opponents. As a unique class mechanic, Barbarians can carry 4 weapon sets, which they automatically switch when a skill requires a certain type of weapon.
How strong are Barbarians? Barbarians have so far proven to be weaker, as they had to endure a lot and had difficulty reaching opponents. However, with the buff, they can withstand more and deal more damage. Beginners who do not want to play as a glass cannon
will find the Barbarian a good choice.
The Barbarian suits you if …
- … you prefer an offensive, aggressive playstyle
- … you can do without magic and ranged combat
- … you want to have many weapons to choose from
- … you want to be the brutal warrior who crushes enemies into the ground
This is how you level the Barbarian: We recommend an ancestor build for leveling: Level build for the Barbarian – This is how you level quickly and easily
How good is the Druid?
This is what Druids can do: Druids use the magic of nature to enchant opponents, strengthen allies, or transform into bears and wolves to crush enemies. They can take on various roles and fight in melee or ranged combat.
With their magic, it’s even possible to briefly summon companions or immobilize opponents. As a unique class mechanic, Druids can offer sacrifices to the spirits to receive permanent buffs.
How strong are Druids? Previously, Druids were among the best classes that are also difficult to master. In the beta, they were by far the weakest class, but have since moved up a bit. In any case, you’ll need to engage well with your skills as a Druid to find a good build.
The Druid suits you if …
- … you want to play a class connected to the forest and nature
- … you always want the option for different playstyles
- … you particularly like the idea of a shapeshifter
- … you like to cuddle with trees and sleep on moss
This is how you level the Druid: We recommend a pet build for leveling: Level build for Druid – This is how you level quickly and easily
How good is the Sorceress?
This is what Sorceresses can do: Sorceresses weave elemental magic, allowing them to crash meteors onto opponents, summon snowstorms, or cast lightning bolts. They utterly disdain close combat.
With their magic, Sorceresses can not only deal damage but also control opponents. The unique class mechanic allows Sorceresses to create their own spells by applying passive effects to active spells with additional skill slots.
How strong are Sorceresses? Traditionally, magic classes like the Sorceress are at the top of tier lists. They take little damage but deal so much that hardly any opponent can reach them: the definition of a “glass cannon,” can deal much damage but take little. This is also the impression so far, and even with nerfs, Sorceresses should remain high on the strength scale.
The Sorceress suits you if …
- … you like to play “glass cannons”
- … you want to play the strongest spellcasting class in the game
- … you want to build your own spells
- … you enjoy blowing opponents up with huge explosions
This is how you level the Sorceress: We recommend a Shock/Frost build for leveling: Level build for Sorceress – This is how you level quickly and easily
How good is the Hunter?
This is what Hunters can do: Hunters rely on combat with various weapons in melee and ranged combat. They alternate shots with bows or crossbows and attacks with daggers and other melee weapons in spectacular combos.
In addition, Hunters fight with poisons and shadow abilities. As a unique class mechanic, Hunters can choose one of three specializations that fundamentally change their playstyle.
How strong are Hunters? The predecessor classes of the Hunter were always relatively strong classes, although difficult to master. Based on current experience, the Hunter will likely position itself in the middle range in Diablo 4 and be easily accessible even for beginners.
The Hunter suits you if …
- … you want a lot of variation within the class
- … you like to play mobile, agile classes
- … assassins in games particularly suit you
- … you want the choice between melee and ranged weapons
- … you want opponents to have no idea what they are dying from
This is how you level the Hunter: We recommend a blade build for leveling: Level build for Hunter – This is how you level quickly and easily
How good is the Necromancer?
This is what Necromancers can do: Necromancers use their magic to summon skeletons and zombies, as well as to strengthen themselves. With corpses, they can cast spells that damage opponents or strengthen their armor.
Their magic allows the necromancer to either fight actively themselves or send hordes of undead minions into battle. As a unique class mechanic, Necromancers have the ability to dictate how their spells work with the “Book of the Dead”.
How strong are Necromancers? In the beta, Necromancers were by far the strongest class, even able to function with just one button. However, the necromancers have since been significantly nerfed.
Now, Necromancers have become relatively weak and are already considered by some experts as the worst class. However, they are not too far behind.
The Necromancer suits you if …
- … you are totally into pet classes and want others to fight for you
- … you like to play classes with dark fantasy
- … you think scythes as weapons are really cool
- … you want to dominate the battlefield with your undead warriors
This is how you level the Necromancer: We recommend a blood build with corpse explosion for leveling: Level build for Necromancer – This is how you level quickly and easily
None of the classes suit me – What now?
The 5 presented classes are the first you can play in Diablo 4. More classes will come later, but exactly when is still unknown.
The 6th class will most likely be a Paladin or Crusader – exactly the class that most of you desire. Such an archetype is still missing in Diablo 4 and is expected to appear with the first expansion.
