When Blizzard introduced the expansion Vessel of Hatred for Diablo 4, it quickly became clear that no old class such as the Paladin or the Witch Doctor would be returning. But why is that?
Where does the information come from? A few days have passed since BlizzCon and among Diablo fans, the hot topic is still the upcoming expansion called Vessel of Hatred. The addon will be released in 2024 and brings back a few familiar locations. However, the team at Blizzard does not fulfill the big wish for the return of popular classes from previous games with this expansion. Instead, there is a completely new class.
In an interview with GamesRadar+, Blizzard now comments on the reasoning behind this decision. They feel responsible for providing you with new ways to play.
“We made the decision to do something new”
This is what Blizzard says: In the interview, Brent Gibson, Associate Game Director for Diablo 4, explains why beloved classes like the Paladin or Witch Doctor are not returning with the new addon.
I think it’s important to remember what our goal was with the main game. So we did really well in delivering five classic classes – and their very specific power fantasies were really important – we wanted to get them right. I feel like we did that amazingly well.
However, while developing Vessel of Hatred, the team faced an important decision. Should they try something new or continue as before?
“The team talked a lot about it, and we really feel responsible for providing new gameplay opportunities. So we decided to do something new. And that is sort of the core that we are working on.”
We from MeinMMO also spoke with Blizzard about the new content of the game. One detail about the new class in Diablo 4 has already been revealed to us by the developers.
The expansion Vessel of Hatred is set to be released for Diablo 4 in late 2024. A major reveal of the new content is expected in the summer.
