What kind of update is this? This is the preload for the first season of Diablo 4. The Season of Malice starts on July 20, 2023, at 7 PM. The update is meant to be released in advance so that the game can benefit from the changes and new items can be tested in the eternal realm.

When does the patch start? The patch could be downloaded around 7 PM.
How large is the download? The download size on the PS5 is a total of 11 GB.
Are there immediate changes? Yes, players in the eternal realms can already benefit from the fixes, balance changes, and new items in advance. Blizzard has already announced in a stream before the release of Season 1 that non-seasonal heroes can benefit from the changes earlier.
Regarding the season journey and battle pass, we cannot say anything yet. It is unclear whether these can be inspected already or only be showcased when July 20 has arrived. So we have to be patient until the update is here.
