In the region of Kehjistan in Diablo 4 you will find a side quest called “The Pilgrim’s Footsteps”. This guide contains location and solution.
How do I get the quest “The Pilgrim’s Footsteps”? To obtain the side quest, you first need to find an old book. This is located in the Amber Sand region in Kehjistan, northwest of the imperial library.
If you have already conquered the stronghold “Altar of Despair,” you can ride or walk west from the waypoint that you unlocked.
Along the way, you will encounter numerous groups of enemies, especially if you walk along the map edge and thus along the water – so equip yourself well for that.

Once you have clicked on and read the old book, you receive the task to follow the pilgrim’s journey. The statue you are supposed to travel to is now marked on your map with a small blue circle.
Follow the route to the blue circle and you will reach the statue.
How do I complete the quest “The Pilgrim’s Footsteps”? To complete the quest, you need to use an emote, similar to the “Forsake the Mother” quest.
Here you need to stand before the statue and perform the emote “Follow.” If you cannot find this emote in your emote wheel, you will learn below how to customize it.
Once you have performed the emote, a chest with loot will appear. By opening this, you complete the side quest.

How to use and change emotes? Here are the keys for mouse and keyboard as well as controller:
- Keyboard: Open the emote menu with “E”
- Use the mouse wheel to switch the emote tab
- Controller: Open the emote menu with “D-Pad Up”
- Use L1/R1 or LB/RB to switch the emote tab
Once you are in the emote menu, press “Triangle” or “Y” on the controller or select “Customize” with the mouse. In this menu, you can swap your emotes:
What are emotes good for? With emotes, it is possible to communicate with other players in Diablo 4. Additionally, you can interact with various shrines to receive certain bonuses.
If you have questions about the emotes or the quest, feel free to leave a comment. We are also open to further ideas for Diablo 4 guides.
By the way: To quickly exit a dungeon, you can use your emote wheel.
