In Diablo 4, the Hell hordes are a good option for farming, where you can actively participate in decision-making. There are specific towers to choose from that are quite unpopular – yet they keep appearing, and players are frustrated.
In the Hell hordes, you fight waves of monsters and ultimately the “Cruel Council,” which consists of three bosses. In doing so, you collect “Burning Ether,” which you can exchange for rewards after defeating the bosses.
What annoys the players? Between the waves, you select a “Hellish Gift” – also called “Curse and Blessing.” Some gifts relate to the Soul Towers, which are quite unpopular within the community. In various posts on Reddit, players complain about the towers in the Hell hordes.
Many seem to feel disturbed in their gameplay flow by the towers and believe that they should simply be removed. The problem is: once the towers spawn, the player character has to go there and stand in a marked area while killing monsters until the tower is “filled.”
Specifically, this means that for a certain period, you are tied to a point on the small map. However, the main focus of the activity is on speed, because: each wave lasts 1 minute, and you ultimately want to gather as much ether as possible.
With the new difficulty levels that have replaced the often-criticized world levels, you can tailor the challenges of the game, as well as those of the Hell hordes themselves. In the video, you’ll learn more about the system:
“Soul Towers ruin an entire run”
What exactly are the players saying? On Reddit, Sdboka notes that he constantly gets Soul Towers in his waves, even though he never selects them. He wonders what the point of the selection is if you still get something else. In addition, baromega writes that the towers should be completely removed or replaced. They are the only affix that slows players down in the activity.
In the comment, alaincastro summarizes the problem:
If [the towers] are not removed, they need to be redesigned – for example, so that they attract enemies. That should become the primary function of the towers. It’s annoying when I run to the other side of the map because an event symbol [on the mini-map] appears, leaving my enemy groups, only to find out that it is a tower. Then I have to wait for the enemies from where I left them to walk into this stupid little circle. The towers are a pure waste of time.
In another Reddit post, loso3svk writes that he is extremely frustrated by this. “In one Hell horde, I get 1,200 ether, in another only 370, because mostly towers appear,” he notes. And Proxii_G responds that the towers ruin the whole run when they spawn often.
Why is this one of the best farming spots? At the end of a successful run in the Hell hordes, you are rewarded with chests containing gear, materials, and gold. You can find:
- important crafting materials like herb bundles, angel’s breath, and obduscite
- ancient items and other equipment
- scrolls of restoration
The crafting materials become increasingly important by the endgame of Diablo 4. But materials to summon bosses also play a significant role if you want to get good loot. For your Paragon boards, you also need glyphs, and you can find runes for your builds. Our simple overview for Diablo 4 shows where you can farm best and what you currently need.
