Season 4 has been running in Diablo 4 for a month now and is doing many things right. Blizzard is already announcing Season 5 – and you can again test it in advance on a PTR.
On May 14, Season 4 started, so it has been exactly a month. The season is well received by a large part of the players. Some say: This is how Diablo 4 could have been from the start. Many praise especially the revamped Helltides and the adjustments to the endgame. This has been criticized since release; now players find: The endgame is finally fun.
In a post on the Diablo 4 forum, community manager Adam Fletcher announced on June 13 that the next update for Diablo 4 would be the Mid-Season Patch. However, this time there will not be the usual livestream for the patch. Instead, the team will talk about Season 5 in a stream. A PTR is also planned.
Season 5 will have a PTR
What do the developers announce? In the forum of Diablo 4, Adam Fletcher writes that there will be a stream on June 21, where the team will talk about Season 5. Fletcher specifically states that the upcoming livestream will be a “Season 5 PTR Campfire Chat.”
So we now know that there will again be a PTR (Public Test Realm) for Season 5, where you can test the new content in advance. However, according to Fletcher, the patch for the Mid-Season will come first, which will include “a lot of significant updates for the game, class balance, and more.”
When can I test Season 5? Nothing specific is known so far. Diablo expert and Twitch streamer wudijo suspects in his post on X that June 25 or July 2 could be possible start dates for the PTR for Season 5. In both cases, that would be a Tuesday. Also, the PTR for Season 4 started on a Tuesday, April 2, and ended a week later.
When will the Mid-Season Update come? The team initially planned to release the Mid-Season Update after the completion of the PTR. However, it is “better for all players” if it is released before that. Blizzard will publish the patch notes on June 14, and the update itself “sometime next week.”
As justification, Fletcher writes in the post:
Well, the PTR for Season 5 would contain some of these changes from the Mid-Season Update, and we didn’t want to put players in a “whiplash” situation when they switch back to Season 4 after the completion of the PTR. Therefore, we believe it’s best for everyone to deliver the Mid-Season Update earlier.

In the world of Sanctuary, “a lot is happening,” Fletcher notes. Here’s what we already know:
- On June 14, the patch notes for Patch 1.4.3 will be released
- On June 21, the “Season 5 PTR Campfire Chat” livestream will take place
- On July 18, a stream about the new class, the “Spiritborn” will take place, where players will get a “deeper insight” into the class according to Fletcher
- Season 4 is expected to end on August 6 – at least that is what is shown in the character selection in Diablo 4. Season 5 will then follow.
