What are the Root Horts? The Root Horts are seasonal dungeons that offer you additional rewards. On top of that, you collect “Restless Decay” here, which advances your reputation with the Circle in Season 7 and unlocks the new witch powers.
On the PTR for Season 7, the small dungeons reminded me of a mix of Hell Breaches and Nightmare Dungeons, adjusted to the theme of the current season. However, to enter the dungeons, you need specific seals.
Root Horts: Location, Whispering Wood, and Rituals
Where can I find the Root Horts? The dungeons do not appear directly on the map. To enter them, you need “Whispering Wood Seals.” These work similarly to Nightmare Seals or Hell Hordes Compasses – you must activate them first. Once the Whispering Wood is activated, a Root Hort will appear on your map, and you can conveniently teleport there to start the dungeon.
Where do I get the Whispering Wood? You receive the Whispering Wood from chests from the Whispering Tree and from Silent Chests that you find in the open world of Sanctuary. To open the Silent Chests, you again need Whispering Keys, which you can purchase from the Curiosity Dealer in the towns for 10 Obols.
How do the Root Horts work? The Root Horts consist essentially of several stages:
- You enter the Root Hort and find rites, rituals, or ceremonies marked with boxes on your minimap. You may choose up to two from these.
- Your goal is then to uproot exposed roots. The required number will be displayed to the right under your minimap.
- As you progress further through the dungeon, you will find rites, rituals, or ceremonies again, from which you can choose up to two.
- Now you need to uproot a certain number of exposed roots again.
- Once you have uprooted all exposed roots, you should enter the heart of the thicket. There, you will face the boss “Headless Shell,” which you must defeat. After that, the Root Hort is successfully completed.
- You have a certain number of revivals available.
What kind of rituals are there? The rites, rituals, or ceremonies can vary. For example, you will find the “Ritual of the Blasphemous Current,” where flames rain down on you, similar to the Hell Flood. With other rituals, the cooldown of your potions or your Escaping skill will increase.
As a reward, more exposed roots spawn in the following area or more loot drops from the roots. The roots drop, among other things, gear, gem fragments, crafting materials, and boss mats. Selecting a ritual is reminiscent of the choice of “Curse and Blessing” in the Hell Breach Dungeons and in the Hell Hordes:
