The developers of Diablo 4 released the first information about the monetization of the action RPG in a blog post. And we want to know your opinion on this.
When the mobile spin-off Diablo Immortal was released in June, voices quickly emerged criticizing the game’s funding model harshly. The monetization of nearly every aspect of gameplay was met with bewilderment and anger from many fans, which is why the mobile game Diablo Immortal was bombarded with negative reviews on Metacritic.
Concerns regarding Diablo 4 were also raised at that time, to which Blizzard developers quickly responded that the funding of the large action RPG would be different from Immortal.
This is what Blizzard has communicated: In an update on the status of Diablo 4, developers Joe Piepiora and Kegan Clark outlined how the game will be financed. It was emphasized multiple times that there will be no Pay2Win mechanics.
Instead, the game will feature an in-game shop where players can buy “accessories” that are purely cosmetic and customize the appearance of the characters. A premium currency will be required for purchases.
On the other hand, there will also be a season pass that is modeled after the battle passes from games like Fortnite and Warzone. The pass will have several levels that players can “climb” while playing. The following should apply:
- The premium tiers will not offer any gameplay advantages over other players but will focus on appearance and transmogrification.
- The free tiers will provide all players bonuses that can accelerate leveling.
