In Diablo 4, the leaderboards were introduced and players quickly exploited a glitch to boost their points in the Gauntlet. Blizzard has now found a solution to combat this.
The leaderboards are the rankings in Diablo 4 where players can compete against each other. They were introduced on March 5 with patch 1.3.3, and within less than a week, players discovered an exploit to unfairly accumulate points.
What kind of exploit was it? We won’t describe it in detail, but there is a way to gain an unfair advantage. This allowed players to quickly attract all enemies in the dungeon and also receive significant buffs – as Diablo expert Rob 2628 found out.
On Reddit, the community discussed the unfair strategy on March 10 in a post. Blizzard is not known for its mercy when it comes to exploiting glitches: Today, March 12, community manager Adam Fletcher responded to the post with a comment. Apparently, the team has already planned a fix.
Cheating players will not appear on the leaderboard
What does the developer say? Diablo 4’s community manager, Adam Fletcher, writes in his comment under the post that the team has found a solution for the exploit. He notes that “anyone who uses this method to generate a score will not appear on the leaderboards in any way.”
It remains to be seen when the hotfix will be implemented and how the leaderboards will be affected and corrected. The leaderboards will be reset tonight, and the new challenge will start with a “fresh” dungeon at 7:15 PM.
What does the community say about this? Adam Fletcher’s comment has received 9 upvotes so far. One user responds: “This is great news. Thanks for the update.” Another user uses the comment to call for an improvement, writing that it is a “no-go” for top players to set their profiles to private as if they are using secret gear in the Gauntlet.
He suggests that it should be a requirement to set the profile to public to participate in the Gauntlet, as “there is absolutely no reason to hide your profile unless you really have something to hide that abuses game mechanics.”
In the exam dungeon, strategy is crucial, as you only have 8 minutes to accumulate points. There are no loot drops, like in other dungeons, so you can fully concentrate on slaying monsters here.
