After more than a year, players in Diablo 4 have found a special ring for the first time. The Ring of Misfortune has the worst stats of all uniques and a negative effect, but it may lead to an even greater mystery: the Cow Level.
What kind of item is this?
- The Ring of Misfortune is a unique item, which was already found in the game data before the release of Diablo 4.
- The item increases all primary stats and some secondary stats by +13 and has a special effect: “Lucky Hit: Chance of up to 100% to lose all your resources.” Including the resistances, the ring has exactly 13 stats.
- A team of 5 players has now found the ring for the first time and had to complete hidden tasks to do so.
This is how you get the ring: On Reddit, the user Sowhatsthecatch has outlined exactly how to obtain the ring. For this, the lucky coin is necessary, which was found months ago and which you need for a secret title.
Additionally, you must be a team of five, as you need one character from each class:
- To obtain the lucky coin, you need to find a random world event where an NPC is killed by monsters and then becomes lootable.
- It is said that a fixed requirement is to have a greed shrine active for the coin to drop. An increased lucky hit chance is also supposed to help.
- Once you have a character from all 5 classes, you need to travel to the wishing well in Scosglen.
- Each player now takes turns throwing the coin into the well.
With each throw, the well bubbles a little, and each additional coin has more severe effects. First, there is a blood effect, then it seems that souls are being drained, and finally, meteors fall from the sky.
If you survive the event, the Ring of Misfortune drops as a legacy unique for each participant. In YouTuber Nora’s video, you can see how the event unfolds and looks.
Since the item has only been found after such a long time and much speculation, many fans now suspect: There is more to it. The ring is certainly a part of the secret Cow Level.
Season 5 brings 15 new uniques to Diablo 4. Perhaps the big rework of the items will continue with this mystery:

In the Reddit thread and the “Not finding a Cow Level” Discord, speculation about the legendary Cow Level is running hot. Players believe the ring certainly has something to do with the mystery. It is said that you should try to kill exactly 13 cows while wearing the ring.
The first step toward the solution has already been killing 2,000 cows to unlock a secret interaction. The ring could now be the second step, but what to do with it is still unclear.
Even the head said, that players should keep the collected items from the first step. However, the thread creator themselves believes: The ring probably does not connect to anything else, but it is still progress. Now the community must continue to search.
In previous installments, special items were an essential part of opening the portal to the Cow Level (or its equivalents), such as Wirt’s Leg (Diablo 2) or the Cow King (Diablo 3). Even rings have been necessary for secret worlds and events:
