In Diablo 4, game characters die for various reasons. One attack particularly annoys players at the moment, as it costs their characters their lives – sometimes even multiple times.
Some enemies make players roll their eyes in annoyance as soon as they appear. Some players, for example, would prefer to leave the dungeon immediately when they see spiders. As early as November, spiders and especially spider hosts were mentioned as the most annoying enemies in Diablo 4.
This is partly due to the poison attacks used by these enemies. They gradually drain your health points over time – and since Season 5, apparently even after the character’s death. Some players believe this must be a bug and are calling for a revision.
“Death does not remove DoT effects”
Why are the enemies annoying? On Reddit, players are discussing the “poison damage over time” that spiders and spider hosts inflict. “yxaltis” notes: In this season, the damage to game characters seems to be worse than before:
Indeed, it seems to be worse this season, as health is dwindling at a massive pace, even faster than healing from potions. When your unstoppable skills are on cooldown, you’re essentially dead.
This is clearly a bug, one that has existed for over a year. Please, can this finally be acknowledged and fixed?
What do other players say about it? Other players also seem visibly annoyed by the damage over time from poison attacks. “devindran” reports in the comments under the post that damage over time (DoT) even continues to affect him after his character has been resurrected. This has happened to him multiple times.
“Apollexis37” has experienced the same thing. He writes: “Had the same problem! And of course I was in a nightmare dungeon and lost two lives at once…” And “MHMalakyte” notes: “This happened to me for the first time last night. It’s crazy that death does not remove DoT effects.”
The user “krichreborn” says: “Yes, this is a new bug this season. It has happened to me twice with my sorceress.” Other players agree and explain that their characters have perished due to poison DoTs – sometimes multiple times in a row.
What does Blizzard say about it? Whether and when work will be done on the “damage over time” effects is unclear. Currently, there are at least regular hotfixes addressing various bugs. And some hotfixes, in turn, cause further bugs, Community Director Adam Fletcher wrote on August 12 on X. For example, chests that are supposed to “guarantee items with greater affixes” currently do not drop items with greater affixes.
Season 5 started on August 6 and apparently brought not only new content to Diablo 4 but also some bugs. For example, a weapon had to be deactivated because it was granting players millions of XP. Other bugs are currently causing acute material shortages. Some materials are quickly depleted through crafting, while other materials are not dropping at all.
