PvP is a completely optional activity in Diablo 4. However, this was not enough for one player, who asked the community manager of the game for a way to completely disable PvP. The conversation made it to Reddit, where the player is now facing mockery and criticism.
What is PvP in Diablo 4 all about?
- There are 2 PvP zones in Diablo 4, the Fields of Hatred. Anyone in these areas can be attacked by other players. The Fields of Hatred are explicitly not meant to be fair.
- Hardcore heroes die permanently in PvP as well, and the encounters can be rough, but otherwise the zones do not differ much from the rest of Sanctuary.
- The currency from the Fields of Hatred is only used to purchase cosmetics and items that help in PvP. They have no relevance to the game itself.
However, not much happens in PvP areas. Aside from a few Barbarians and Hunters with their OP builds one-shotting some Casuals, players even help each other more frequently there. Even the rare Butcher has 10 times more player kills than all players combined.
This is what the player demands: On Twitter, the user has now urged Blizzard to completely disable the PvP zones. Or more precisely: to offer an option to disable PvP. They want to explore the entire world without engaging in PvP.
The conversation between the player and community manager Adam Fletcher is… somewhat peculiar. We have translated it for you:
User: ‘Give me the option to disable PvP.’
Fletcher: ‘To do that, follow these steps: 1) Do not go into the optional areas named Fields of Hatred.’
User: ‘Or just give me the option to disable it so I can enjoy the entire map in the game I paid for.’
Fletcher: ‘There are no plans to disable [PvP]. Again, I recommend simply not going into the areas marked as Fields of Hatred.’
Another user uploaded the discussion on Reddit. There, the screenshot gathered over 16,000 likes and more than 3,000 comments in just a few hours. Most of them laugh at the complaining player.
“That guy’s attitude is ridiculous”
The top comment in the thread is simply: ‘Damn casuals,’ which was quickly expanded by other users to: ‘Damn idiots.’ Because such an attitude has nothing to do with how little someone plays.
It’s the sense of entitlement that some people have just because they buy something. PvP as an optional zone was announced even before the release, everything is clearly laid out in the notes that must be confirmed before playing.
Those who still complain and demand changes to such core content simply do not understand the world. There is even praise for Fletcher and his calmness, for not just responding with a ‘Shut up,’ even though that could be inferred from the wording.
Others mock the player and write: ‘But I paid for the PvP zone.’ Here, it is joked that they should not have to go to the optional areas that are not marked as PvP.
Generally, arguments that culminate in: ‘But I paid for it’ are fundamentally ridiculous. Here especially, because even in the PvP zones, one simply meets players who do not mean harm far too rarely. More often, they help each other instead.
And even if: then one simply dies; it’s not like you lose anything significant because of it. Even players who are completely anti-PvP have not had problems with this so far.
The negative attitude of some players seems to be getting on the community’s nerves:
Because too many complain: A player asks what Diablo 4 does right, receives hundreds of answers
