A player of Blizzard’s new hack-and-slash Diablo 4 tells a story that is both pretty and somewhat pathetic. He met a wonderful and powerful ice sorceress, fell in love immediately, and attached himself to her heels. Others, however, do not comment quite so warmly.
In this pitiful situation, a player was stuck: A player describes on reddit that he had maneuvered himself into a hopeless situation in Diablo 4:
- The player says he was stuck: He found he was actually too strong for level 60 and world tier 3, but not strong enough for world tier 4
- So he died through the level 70 content, somehow cheated his way through, felt miserable, and already planned to switch back to world tier 3 to strengthen himself further.
- World tier 4 was a “world of pain” for him. With only 2,000 HP, anything could kill him with one hit, and when he wanted to kill something himself, it took him 5 minutes.
Beaten and exhausted, I was about to give up. Screw it, I’ll just go back to world tier 3 and grind until I can beat tier 4.”
Player meets “beautiful goddess”, follows her like a puppy
That changed the situation: The player writes that when he was feeling totally down, “she appeared out of nowhere, my savior … my goddess.”
Unlike him, who was just bleeding and dying through world tier 4, she was a “beautiful level 71 ice sorceress” who melted hordes of enemies as if they were only level 30.
The player writes: He felt dirty, but from then on, he attached himself to her heels, followed her, and made sure not to die so that he wouldn’t lose her. He hung onto her like a bloodsucking leech, leeching EXP and items. He quickly replaced his 702 gloves with 798 ones.
He was also a sweet puppy, he says. Every time an item dropped, he showed the emote “Thank you” – and he felt that his goddess had noticed him for a moment because he was following her so obediently.
The player compares his behavior to a “stray dog looking for a bone.”
That was the climax: The sorceress was about to enter a dungeon. Since he wasn’t in a group with her, it meant saying goodbye for him.
So he pointed at the dungeon and made a “no” gesture. But the miracle happened: The sorceress responded with a “yes” and invited him to the group.
Ultimately, the man is smitten. He writes: I met a stranger in the open world, we ground some items together. We had a great time. Super person. I hope she reads this. I will never forget her.
Reddit wants to take his illusion away, but he refuses
What is the cool response from reddit? The top comment is:
That’s not a woman. That’s a fat guy with hair on his neck who cosplayed as a sorceress because the male model looks like crap.
But the player responds: “To me, she is a beautiful goddess – no matter what you say.”
Men playing female characters in online games? That’s shocking. I didn’t want to believe that such a thing exists. But maybe the Reddit user is onto something hot:
