Season 5 starts on August 6 and changes all Uniques and Mythic Uniques in Diablo 4. The classes will also be revised to align their strength with each other. MeinMMO summarizes the highlights of the patch notes for 1.5.0.
The highlights from the patch:
- In the YouTube livestream on August 1, the developers explain that they have received a lot of feedback for Season 5 from the PTR and have, among other things, revised the new endgame activity “Infernal Hordes.” The monster waves now last only 60 seconds instead of 90. Hell Compasses drop more frequently in activities and can be crafted.
- Season 5 will also feature a “Reputation System,” similar to the system with the Iron Wolves in Season 4. You will receive Uniques, crafting mats, and in the end, a “Splendid Spark” for crafting Mythic Uniques.
- The new “Hell Breaching Dungeons” are well suited for leveling – according to developers, they should resemble the “Dopamine Tunnel,” which featured little backtracking, many enemies, and constant action.
- Additionally, there will be some quality-of-life changes, all Uniques will be revised, and the five classes will be more aligned with each other.
The major part of the “Campfire Chat” livestream on YouTube on August 1 covers the revision of Uniques and class balance. The developers explain that the Barbarian “is too strong compared to other classes.” This is partly due to the special class mechanics and the fact that it has more item slots that allow for more legendary aspects.
However, they do not want to simply nerf the Barbarian. They want to maintain its class identity and the number of item slots as well. They aim to address the issue in various ways.
You can find the detailed patch notes for Season 5 on page two of the article. A small warning: they are VERY long. These are the patch notes for patch 1.5.0, which were previously available for the PTR and have now been revised.
Buffs for Sorceresses and Druids
How will all classes become stronger? In the livestream, lead class designer Adam Z. Jackson explains that the developers want to adjust the class balance in various ways:
- Changing outgoing damage through the class’s core stats
- Reducing the power of Barbarians, approximately based on core passive skills
- Buffing other class mechanics, skills, aspects, and Uniques
They want to change the damage share that each class receives from their core stats. Previously, players dealt 1% more damage for every 10 points in their core stats. Now, the increase depends on the class:
- Barbarians: 1% more damage per 10 strength (as before)
- Hunters: 1% more damage per 9 dexterity
- Sorceresses, Druids, Necromancers: 1% more damage per 8 core stats
To create a certain balance, the developers will also strengthen underperforming builds of the Barbarian. For example, the damage of “Hammer of the Ancients” will be increased by 10%.
What does this mean for the other classes? Community Director Adam Fletcher notes in the livestream that the team has received a lot of feedback on Sorceresses and Druids. Sorceresses will receive some buffs for their Uniques. All core and mastery skills will be buffed by 15–20%. There are also some improvements on the Paragon board. Druids will primarily receive damage buffs.
Hunters are already in a good position, according to Adam Z. Jackson. Nevertheless, they will receive some improvements, mainly an adjustment of Uniques. Necromancers will receive buffs for their hardening recipes and damage. Additionally, the luck strike chance of numerous skills will be increased.
All Uniques will receive an update
What else is going to change? The developers are revising all Uniques in Diablo 4. They are supposed to become “special” again and critical for respective builds. The general power of the effects will be increased. Diablo expert Raxxanterax states in his stream that this is changing how passive skills and class mechanics interact with each other. It could be fun to create “crazy builds” with them.
Uber Uniques will become Mythic Uniques in Season 5. They will receive a purple appearance and have a glowing beam when they drop. Your old Uniques will turn into “Legacy Items” after Season 4, so you will need to farm them again to benefit from the changes on the eternal realm.
There are also changes regarding the endgame activity “The Pit”: The damage by the Pit boss is reduced by 66%. In addition, all players entering the Pit as a group will receive the full amount of mats for completion. This was previously criticized: “Playing with friends is not worth it” – Experts explain why many prefer to stay alone in Diablo 4.
