Diablo 4 has finally been released. The launch was extraordinarily smooth. Only one bug is causing difficulties. Some players are struggling with an annoying bug. Fortunately, the solution is very easy, although somewhat strange.
Update from October 8, 2024: At the launch of Vessel of Hatred, the bug apparently occurs again. Unlike the release of Diablo 4 back then, this is not due to a server issue, but because the launch is delayed by a few hours.
The login servers are already down. Those still in the game will soon be kicked out. We are covering the launch of Vessel of Hatred live and will keep you informed there about when the expansion will be playable.
Original text – What kind of bug is this? When you start Diablo 4, you are greeted with the error: “No valid license found” and are not allowed to log in. While there are no queues at launch, this error is currently locking out many fans.
A restart should already help. However, that is not always sufficient, especially on PS5 and Xbox.
However, some users on Reddit and in our comments on MeinMMO have figured out how to work around the problem. It quickly became clear: buying platinum helps, which is the premium currency for real money.
This initially caused displeasure. Some users accuse Blizzard of it being intentional. Even before, the expensive prices in the shop have caused outrage. The error apparently lies with Sony itself, as you don’t actually have to pay real money.
This is the solution: As of now, there are several solutions that are working for people. Try several of them if one doesn’t work, or restart your console in between:
- “buy” a free game in the PS Store
- download any game, such as from PS Plus or a smaller game – free games work too
- download a DLC for any game
- restore your license via Settings → Users and Accounts → Other → Restore License
- buy platinum for Diablo 4
Note: The bug seems to be affecting some users on Xbox as well. You can try the relevant steps for your platform too.

– completely turn off the console and wait
– restore licenses
– log out of account and log back in
Suddenly he was able to log in after waiting for 20 minutes. So patience is required.
Blizzard has been working on an official solution since the release at 01:57 AM (via Twitter). However, it is still open.

Apart from the license error, there are virtually no complaints about the launch. Some users even praise the release as the cleanest in Blizzard’s history, at least on PC. No bugs, no login queues, no overloaded servers. MeinMMO reader Higi praises: “No queues, awesome, smooth start! That’s how you should binge. “
The only criticism is directed at the online requirement of Diablo 4, as some users associate the error on PS5 with this. Most players have probably already been roaming around in Sanctuary and hunting Lilith.
For all those who can already play, we strongly recommend the quest “Relentless Flesh” in the first area. The quest only takes 5 minutes but is already one of the best in the game.

Update July 21, 2023, 10:15 PM: As numerous users report on reddit, the problem “No valid license found” also appears on July 21 around 10 PM, directly following the Fire Chat from Blizzard, in which the developers addressed the complaints that arose after the patch for Season 1.
Some suspect the renewed difficulties are due to a DDoS attack.
Users report receiving error codes such as:
- Diablo 4 315306
- No valid license (unable to find valid license)
